Designated Hitter at National League park

Why was there a designated hitter in last night's all-star game when a National league team served as host?

Because there should be a DH in the National League as well.

Probably to save the pitcher's strength.

I agree that this was a travesty. Utilizing double-switches is the strategic hallmark of the NL (and IMO, why the entertainment value of the NL is superior to the AL). There is no reason to use a DH in a NL park. Beltran could have just pinch-hit for Hallady when his spot in the order came up.

Because no one wants to see Jered Weaver and Roy Halladay swing a bat.

Not sure Id want an All Star caliber pitcher hurt while batting or running the bases.

False. There shouldn't be a DH used at all except for All-Star games.

Yeah, I am pro-NL ball and anti-DH as well, but I don't see a problem with using a DH in the All-Star game.

I thought I heard that this was a new rule for all-star games. They will always have a DH, no matter where played.

It wouldn't happen unless one side batted through the order in the first. If the managers don't want them to bat, then pinch hit for them.

Re: Designated Hitter at National League park

Have you heard about Bud Selig's new proposed DH Interleague rule?

He wants games played in NL Parks to use the DH and games played in AL Parks to have the pitchers bat. I think it should stay the same.

I like this. Give it a chance for the fans to see something different.

Modifications in place for All-Star Game | MLB.com: News

The contest always will include a designated hitter no matter where it's played.

It also appears they are changing the Sunday Starting Pitcher rule for next year. Instead of not being able to play, starting pitchers from Sunday's games will be allowed to throw one inning.

I like this because it will cut back on the number of people that have to be replaced.
