    Positive football thoughts only thread

Yeah, it's going to be a booger for me too, but I just listened to some of the Cyclone Reaction call in show, and I don't want to be like that, or listen to people like that anymore. The night has been rough enough.

It sounds like ISU's offense moves the ball pretty well in a two minute drill. Maybe we need to stick with that. I know there was talk about it last year, but it never happened. Maybe I should say Meyer seems to do better in that type of situation. I do think that we need to stretch the defense deeper, of course using Blythe. Our other receivers are going to need to prove that they are a serious threat to do some damage for Todd to get the opportunities.

I still believe Chizik will get these guys on the right track, and that we will see at least a couple wins this year. I think Bret Meyer is a really, really good kid, but as the year progresses, I hope we see Arnaud get to split time so that he is ready to go for next year.

I know most Cyclone fans are hurting pretty good tonight, and of course I am too, but we need to give this completely new system a chance to work, and give the team our full support throughout the next couple years, even though they could be tough. What's that commercial say? Adversity reveals character? I hope that we show our character to be solid.

Just think of the confidence that Chizick will build when true Cyclone fans remain solidly behind their team even after two horrible games to start his tenure. True fans know change takes time and if we remain supportive and steadfast, that will only help to give our young coach needed confidence to move forward and build this thing up.

Arnaud looked good in the drive he played... especially given how much the UNI fans were trying to shake him up on his first play

The high water mark of the night, no doubt about it. A tremendous show.

Re: Positive football thoughts only thread

I absolutely, 100% agree with you Cyclonepride. We just have to give the system, players and staff, time. It's going to be a rough season, we should've known that going in. However, true Cyclone Nation will show it's face as the season goes on. I will stand and cheer for every game and for ever second. We have to look for positives in these games. Like Gene said tonight "it's tough to find positives when you lose," but we have to find something to get us through the season.

My only worry is that Cyclone Nation answered the call when Jamie Pollard asked, but now there is great doubt that his plan will work.

Just give it time! We have the right people in place and as they build on their vision you will be able to say "Hey, I was a fan when we went 0-12 (I don't think it'll be that bad) and now we're 12-0" Jamie, Gene, Cael, and Greg have a great plan in mind and I will stick with them 'til the end. Go Cyclones!

Like I said in another thread, captain Kirk won a total of 3 games in his first two seasons at iowa. Give it time folks. Gene is a good coach but he cannot mold this team into a winner over night.

My camera battery died before that point, so sadly I couldn't get anything. If you find pictures however... please share, 'cause it was (like last year) one of the highlights of the night

(Last year was a light saber battle, after they kidnapped T.C. and put a "I <3 Cy shirt on him...)

Re: Positive football thoughts only thread

I know people keep complaining about the bland play calling, but I actually thought tonight was an improvement on last week. It look like they completely changed it up and passed much more (albeit no better result with a loss). With better players and better line play in general I see some real reason for optimism.

I was happy that there wasn't a fire on I-35 or an accident south of Huxley.

Re: Positive football thoughts only thread

    I'd say the coaches got them in the right place to make the plays;
....but the players just didn't respond.
Meyer gets to the 30 yard line twice, before thowing Int's.
...the 31 before a turn over on downs
    ...the 32 & Shaggy misses a FG.
...as fate would have it, Brookins fumbles a K.O. return
and then that debacle at the 9 yard line
Can't say we really didn't have our chances. I'm a Gene Chizik supporter. The man is doing his best with the hand that was dealt to him. Remember when he 1st got here, he said none of these players are big XII calibre. I really feel coach C. will bring this program to levels it has never seen before. But like everyone knows, it's going to be a process. Certainly not this year, but just wait. It will happen.

We aren't as disappointed as Michigan fans...coming into the year expecting a national title-sitting 0-2 with a loss to a Division 1aa school (or whatever they call it now) and a woodshed beating today to Oregon.

My car got another coat of paint during tailgating today... it's starting to look good!

(For those that don't know, my current project is painting my car red and gold during tailgating)
