You guys are on the short list of a big time 2013 recruit

Coach Kinnan at Bradenton Manatee has produced some great QBs including All Americans Willie Taggert and Tommie Fraiser but Cord Sandberg may be the best QB ever at Manatee. Cords short list includes Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Iowa State and Western Kentucky.

Auburn offered Cord before he ever played a varsity down at Manatee so I would think that weighs heavy on his choices. His dad played baseball at Florida and Willie Taggert an ex Manatee QB is head coach of Western Ky. I don't know Georgia's connection but I suspect Iowa State is on his list because Quenten Bundridge was his primary target last year and Quinton Pompeii was also a team mate.

This kid is the real deal. As a 6'2 190 lb sophmore last year he had a 75% completion percentage and threw very few ints while rushing for over 600 yds. He had 25 passing TDs 10 rushing TDs and threw just 6 ints. The kicker is he may never play college football because depending on how he does the next 2 years he might be a 1st round baseball draftee.

Anyway you guys might want to keep an eye on him, he has you on his very short list.

His Rivals profile has only one offer from Clemson, and Iowa State doesn't appear on the list.

I'm as big a Manatee fan as I am a Gator fan and I will tell you he is the real deal. You may get a chance to see him on ESPN this year since Manatee plays both Don Bosco Prep out of New Jersey and Saint Thomas Aquinais out of Ft Lauderdale. If anybody watched ESPNs first high school game of the year last year that was Cords 1st varsity game. He did a pretty good job of dismantling defending State Champions Tampa Plant.

Hopefully he choses us but I think we can all agree that no one wants him to end up in Chizzville.

Let's hope he picks the good guys over Gene and his $180,000.

I noticed him on the Bundrage film and when I learned he was only a Soph last year, I figured that he would be a big time recruit.

I don't know if we can afford him, if we're going up against Auburn.

Hopefully their school doesn't put out a better WR than Bundrage and they stay close so he wants to reunite with him. Iowa State needs to start taking the next step forward this year if we want to start landing these big time recruits.

Re: You guys are on the short list of a big time 2013 recruit

I saw this kid play last year when they were on ESPN against Tampa Plant. I believe Plant was the favorite in that game and Manatee pretty much dominated. The QB was pretty impressive, but Manatee was loaded at all the positions. They had about a dozen kids on the team that either were offered or will be offered by D-1 schools, including Florida 4-star signee RB Mike Blakely, who has since reconsidered, saying Florida's offense doesn't fit his game. I don't know whatever became of that.

Pompey was impressive in that game too, often going against a 6-6, 315 3-star Michigan OL signee. Plant also had 5-star RB James Wilder Jr., a Florida State signee. Pompey leveled Wilder on one play and knocked him out of the game for a while. He was also constantly in the Plant backfield and had several sacks.

Philip Ely, Plant's 3-star QB, signed with Alabama and they had a couple of other kids sign with D-1 schools as well. They had four underclassmen who have received scholarship offers this year, including a Stanford DB commit.

Manatee had another DT, Drakkar Wilson, I wish we would have offered, but at 285-pounds, he was only about 5-11. Still, he was pretty disruptive when paired with the Pompeys. Both Wilson and Quinton's brother, Chris, a DE, haven't signed with anyone yet that I can see. I thought I read somewhere that Chris Pompey had signed with someone like Western Kentucky or East Tennessee, but there's nothing in the Rivals database about it.

Ah, thanks. Now that you post that, I vaguely remember hearing that Auburn was the choice.
