Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

What sport are you most qualified to talk about. Be as general or specific as you want. What qualifies you to talk about that sport. Playing? Coaching? Video game dominator? Championship tailgater?
Feel free to brag away if you've got a good resume'.

This is a message board, I'm qualified to talk about everything! How dare you suggest that there are different levels of experts. You don't have to know anything to be an expert!

Amen. If I wasn't the ultimate in experts, you people would all be left to talk in mediocrity.

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

    Probably football.

Played from 7th-12th grades. Watched/listened to it since I was 9 or 10. I've attended probably an average of 8 or 9 college games/year for the past 7 or 8 years.

I watch quite a bit of basketball and hockey too, but never really played either at an organized level. Utterly unqualified to discuss baseball.

If boozing was a sport, I'd be pretty qualified as both a participant and spectator.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

Mine is definitely football as well. Played small college ball and now coach HS. I stay away from commenting on pro football though because of the talent level all-around, it is a totally different game with different strategies than college and HS.
I used to call HS and small college basketball games on the radio as well, and had a pretty good understanding of what was going on, but after 7 years away from it, I think that is a sport that maybe has evolved more than any when the club aspect is figured into it.

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

Wrestling. Was on a wrestling mat almost as soon as I could walk, in HS 4x state qualifier, 3x state medalist, wrestled in several national tournaments. Walked on at ISU for a very short stint. Coached high school for a few years, now helping with college club team. Have had four surgeries (and another scheduled), all due to wrestling.

That said, I'd say I have to agree with Al on the "if boozing were a sport" comment. Been in college for 9 years, former bartender, and now I live in the Napa Valley of Beer and brew my own stuff....

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

Baseball. Started T-Ball when I was 5. Played at least 50 games a season in middle school, then the 40 games a season in high school + 10-15 each fall and another 10-15 each spring.

Also played basketball and soccer from 5 through high school.

Never played competitive football, but have been to far more football events than any other sport. Only have missed a couple games at Jack Trice in the past decade.

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

As a fan, I've probably watched more basketball than anything.

As something I might actually be able to claim some expertise in, probably swimming. Swam all through high school, taught swim lessons, was an "intern coach" from my club team in high school for one season, and recently got back in the water again.

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

Football for me, the kicking game specifically. When I was in high school, I was a kicker and kicker only, (long story short, doctors wouldn't clear me for contact positions.) I've worked at a kicking camp as an administrator/instructor since 2004 that has put 2 kickers into the NFL, with a couple other kickers getting a preseason cup of coffee in the NFL.

In all seriousness, if this were a sport, I have a buddy who would probably be a pro at this after a day. His main sport was racquetball, he has been a legitimate semi-pro since high school and his sister married one of the top guys in the world. That said, any game you can think of that required hand-eye coordination, he could pick it up and kill people in a second. Took him tailgating once and he had never played any of the games, and was unstoppable at bags, washers, you name it.

Not wanting to start the "what is a sport, what isn't a sport" discussion, but I would beat 99% of the people on CF in pool (billiards). 100% if I were drunk.

Re: Friday discussion- What is "your sport"

Basketball, by far. 20 years of playing/watching/studying. Once you realize the real action is off the ball, the game really opens up for you.

Football is second, but I'm like a Todd Haley. Only played a couple of years, but I've watched it all my life. I know all the strategies and most of the technique, I know playcalling, and I can scout other teams. (plus I play a mean game of NCAA football on xbox 360)

I know absolutely NOTHING about wrestling or hockey. hahaha
