Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

Well that would suck. I was under the impression that conference games wouldn't end up on Longhorn Network. Anyway that a local channel can pick up that feed, or Mediacom adds the network to their current sport pack before the season starts?

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

As I understand it...only games that are not being picked up otherwise on the standard Big 12 TV package, are eligible to be on the Longhorn Network. That seems unlikely but if there's to be no coverage otherwise...that would be a nice little bonus.

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

The conspiracy theorist in me says Texas tries one conference game per year in a different market within the Big 12 to try to get out-of-state markets to pick up their network.

Isn't Longhorn Network Tier III? If it is, do they have to share any of that revenue if the ISU (or any other conference game) is aired on it?

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

I thought that inter-conference games aren't Tier III.

Either way, I don't really care. I'll be at the game, and it's on TV. We want the Longhorn Network to succeed.

Looks like some of the UT fans think it'll be the KU game...

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

As I said...the only way they can pick up a game is if nobody else wants it. After this season, every conference game will be televised...so Texas won't be able to put ANY conference games on their network. They may pick up an early game against Podunk University of Northeast Cackalackey for the network each year...but that's pretty much it.

I'm glad they have their own network...it compliments whatever primary TV packages the conference has and in no way impedes what a future conference network may want to do. Its good for Texas AND good for the conference.

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

Correct me if im wrong, but arent tier 3 rights with the home school? I doubt we'd give up local television options without a paycheck. Id think we'd more likely opt to try to get the game on FCS.

Anyways, for AlumNi, this is a one year thing at most. Starting in 2012 all conference games will be covered by tier1-tier2 deals, and not eligible for the longhorn network.

ISU owns the rights to all of it's home games not televised by the conference, correct?

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

Yeah, I don't believe texas can do anything with this game unless we give them the OK and I think JP has show pretty clearly that he will do what's best for ISU and that's not putting this game on the Longhorn network.

No way next seasons *** kicking of Texas is on their network for nobody (read potential recruits) to see. It won't happen because JP and CPR are not dumb.

I could see us doing it under 2 circumstances-

    1. texas pays us well.. and 2. we do it to get addl exposure in that state.

Shaggybevo posters raised an interesting possibility, if ESPN blew one of its tier 1 picks on the game to be on the longhorn network, and then sold it to them. At that point, we'd be getting tier 1 money, though that doesnt matter quite as much now.

The KU game is in Austin...you would think it has to be that one.

Re: ISU vs. Texas game on Longhorn Network?

The conference game will not be a road game so KU in Austin is the likely game.

HornNet debuts at the end of August and they have yet to reach any carraige argreements and I've read DirecTV is not interested at this point, maybe that changes if ESPN lowers their price.
