    Bass Guitar

I figure someone on here has to be able to help me a little. I am looking to find a bass guitar and amp to learn how to play on. It's a bucket list sort of deal. I don't have aspiration of starting a band or anything. I just have always wanted to learn how to play guitar and it seems like everyone and their brother tries to learn how to play regular guitar. I want to learn something a little different. Does anyone know where I could pick up these things for relatively cheap besides a pawn shop or something. I don't need anything that sounds perfect obviously.

Fender Affinity Precision Bass Pack: Shop Bass & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

Almost everyone I know started out with one of these packages, they have a one that is a jazz bass instead of the p-bass if you prefer. Also I've purchased guitars and amps from musicians friend with no problems.

Stiletto Custom-4 - Schecter Guitar Research

This is the bass I've been playing at my church for the last 6 months. Quite simply the best bass I've ever played. Schecter is an extremely underrated guitar brand - high quality guitars at a reasonable price. Since that bass belongs to the church (and last Sunday was the last time I played for the church, since I move to Michigan this week), and the bass I currently own is a piece of junk, the bass I'm going to buy for myself isn't necessarily going to be this model, but I decided it was going to be another Schecter when I realized I was going to miss playing that bass.

    Re: Bass Guitar

Probably the best starter bass you can buy is one of the lower end Ibanez basses.

    Re: Bass Guitar

I find it disturbing and ironic that a "church bass" came from Schecter who makes guitars named hellraiser, damien, omen, etc. and produces the first "mass" production guitar ever to actually have a satanic pentagram at the 12th fret.

Go to :17 seconds in the video and check out the Gary Holt Signature model - in what else but black? Go full screen for all the praise the what??? glory.

Check out the vampire bat inlays at 1:04 for more church fun!

Praise the --- what the -- what is that!?!?

To be fair, you didn't say what kind of church you attended.

It's one of those things - you can look at a Schecter bass as something that symbolizes whatever you want it to symbolize - or you can look at it as a quality bass guitar at a good price. Our worship pastor is familiar with and likes the brand, so that is the guitar he purchased.

But the bottom line is you can probably find similar stories for any guitar brand you would want to play. Guess you can't bring Fender's or Gibson's into a church setting, either...

I agree with AAron here, this would be the perfect system for someone who is starting out.

Ok, so I have found two options here. One is the above Fender kit. The other is an Ibanez SR300M and then just a 10W bass. Which one would I likely be better off with?

    Re: Bass Guitar

I saw a band this weekend and the Bass player looked like he had an '8-String' guitar.

Kinda like a 12-string guitar, that has a thinner gauge string coupled with the dominant string, this Bass had what looked like a similar coupling - anybody ever seen / heard of this before?

    Re: Bass Guitar

I have been playing the Affinity P-bass for years and have liked the way it performs. If you have a guitar center or something similar near you you may want to go and try and play each of the models. Each one will have a different feel. I'm still saving my nickels for the Geddy Lee edition Jazz Bass from Fender.

Fender by a long shot. Just pay attention to who inspired you to pick up bass and there's a high probability they're playing a Fender P-bass or Jazz bass.

You'll be hard pressed to find any Ibanez bass players at the professional level. There are some, but not even close with Fender.

The bassist for Cheap Trick had an 8 string bass based on the 12 string guitar idea of having a higher pitched second string next to each standard bass string. Google or cheap tricks website will probably lead you to what you were looking at. He used it way back in the late 70's.

This made me laugh. Not because you aren't right, just because the thought of me ever playing at anything more than a mediocre level is hilarious.
