Georges Niang ranked #147 on rivals

updated 2012 rankings. Okoro still not ranked which is not surprising as he doesn't play AAU ball.

Pretty obvious there's plenty of talent in and close to around Iowa. Anyone know why we are not after Woodbury?

I think that Woodbury said that if he was going to stay in state that it was not going to be Iowa State. He is a hawkeye for life

Can someone please remind me why everyone is going crazy about Fred's ability to recruit. He has 2 top 50 players in his back yard and will not pull either of them in. Are you guys really that excited to pull in #147? Wow!

Fred Hoiberg has been the coach at Iowa State for 1 year. We were the worst team in the Big 12 when he got here and no talented kid wanted to come play for us.

Compare that to Roy Williams at UNC and are you really giving Hoiberg a hard time for missing out on Marcus Paige? Paige committed to UNC about 4 months after Hoiberg got the job. Hardly a recruiting miss.

And Hoiberg has yet to offer Woodbury. So hard to complain about missing out on him.

So in short, Hoiberg has pulled in 2 HS recruits that had offers from Pittsburgh, St. Johns, Maryland, A&M, etc. I'd say that is pretty good when he has had such a short time to develop relationships. That's also not even mentioning the transfer recruits that he has been able to land. Getting a guy like Chris Allen here for a year is no different than Kentucky landing a 5 star guard who is one and done. Look at their stats at the end of the year and I bet they will be identical

Will Clyburn, Royce White, Chris Allen, Chris Babb, Korie Luscious? These are all highly talented, major impact recruits (I think Clyburn might turn out to be the best of them all, its pretty amazing to land a 1st team All-Conference player, even for just one year).

I think in the upcomming years we will see Fred start to land top 100 guys. I think with Matt recruiting New York hard and with TJ doing what he does we should be in position to bring in top recruits. Just a matter of time IMO

Clyburn I agree with... Most of the universities were not hot after Allen, White, Luscious etc.... Just a reminder... they were kicked off another Div. 1 team. Top programs were not going after these kids, it was out of desperation that they landed here in Ames. I'm not ripping on Hoiberg, I love what he's doing, but we are not nearly as close to the top of the mountain as most people think. I firmly belive a good to great program pulls in the top player's in their state- Iowa State has not pulled in a talented Iowa player, in quite some time!

I don't remember Clyburn being heavily recruited out of JUCO college, but once he played a season at Utah he became a hot commodity. What is with this?

He was 1st team all MWC (a very tough conference) and averaged around 18 and 9. That explains it. Stud.

Uh, he lead them in scoring in a pretty solid league. I will take the leading scorer from Utah any year.

If all we do is sit here and recruit Iowa players...we're not going to ever be a great team...we may be okay but we wouldn't be great.
