Any networking gurus that can help me??

I got back from a work trip yesterday. I went to connect to my wireless home network this morning and I couldn't get it to work. I've tried everything that I can think of to connect to my router, including hardwired ethernet cable, and I can't even ping the thing. I suspect that my router is toast although I don't know how that can happen while I'm out of town. I can connect to the cable modem directly and I can even connect to my neighbors unsecured wireless. So any ideas on why I can't connect to my own router?

    Info
    Windows XP SP2
DLink Dl-713P wireless gateway (this thing is old)

Let me know if you can help.

I'm about an hour away from going to circuit city and getting a new router.

Yep. There is even a "reset" button the router itself that I have pushed. Same results. It is like the router doesn't exist.

I can see the wireless network as an option in my wireless connections list so the radio is working. But it has no IP address.

Static charge in your line...Don't mess with it much more. They are only $50 to get a new one, just get it and pend 10 min working on setting up a new one. Just not worth the time to troubleshoot.

Why are you paying for it if you have free access?

Mine does that about once a week. I usually can just unplug it's power for a minute or so, then plug it back in.

I had that same problem on my wireless router, I even though about getting on those those automated light switches to just reset it every night. But I updated the firmware on it to work with my wife's macbook, and now it only dies like once a month.

I think Indianola switches over their power grid at night, and sometimes they have a rough switch over. Seems to be the most likely cause. Our Ankeny office used to trip about once a day.

Re: Any networking gurus that can help me??

Well, I tried absolutely everything. I have work to get done today and I'll I've done is play IT guy.

I went to Circuit City and bought a new Linksys. Plugged it in and it is working great.

I convinced the other one is toast. I just don't know how electronics fail with no moving parts.

    What a waste of time.

lol...yeah. you would think these people would at least change the password of their router.

The signal is weak but it works. I would rather have my own service.

That and my company pays for my broadband connection.

I'm sure it was, but make sure these things are on a surge suppressor. These things are very sensitive. Also, it's not a bad idea to just unplug them during a lightning storm.

Ahh for $50 they are just throw away items anyway. Use it abuse it and then toss it and buy a new one. Not worth even messing with.
