Sure, why not? Anything is possible during the lockout.

Orlando might as well get as much as they can before he walks.

Have to agree with this. Orlando tried to surround him with players, but ultimately failed and they're going to lose him as a result. It looks like the organization has learned from Shaq and are going to try to get what they can from him. And it doesn't bother me so much - a team doesn't need a dominant center to win anymore. Neither of the Finals teams had one, none of the past 5 champions had one, hell, none of the six Bulls teams ever had one. A dominant center is nice, but their are other ways to build teams as well.

Honestly Odom and either Bynum or Gasol would not be a terrible loss for the Lakers if they could get Howard. Odom is 31, Gasol is 30 and Bynum can't make it through a season without getting hurt. He played 82 games back in 06-07 and other than that he's averaged just 51 games a season since then. Howard is only 25 and just coming into his prime where Odom and Gasol are at the age where they are going to start declining over the next few seasons. If the Lakers want Howard the only way is going to be through a trade because they have way too much money tied up in other players to make a bid at him in free agency.

Not washed up but NBA players usually start to noticeably decline in their mid 30's. Howard is a far superior talent compared Odom or Gasol so why wouldn't you make that trade if you are the Lakers? I don't see Odom or Gasol getting any better than they are right now. I know Laker fans love Odom but if you can get a talent like Howard you gotta consider pulling the trigger on that trade. The Lakers have a small window to win with the talent they have now with Kobe and by getting Howard you at least acquire a star you can build around once Kobe retires.

    Re: Howard to Lakers?

All the Magic have to do is look at what happened with Cleveland and LeBron. Howard hasn't exactly given the Magic much confidence to think he's coming back so you have to trade him and get as much as you can. Don't get left holding the bag watching him announce he's taking his talents elsewhere

    Re: Howard to Lakers?

I'm skeptical Orlando would do this. IMO if a trade works out with Howard going to LA it would be for all three and LA taking on Arenas' contract. But you can't move Arenas until after the lock out.
You don't give up, arguably, one of the 5 best current players in the league for two guys in their 30's.. one that is more comfortable coming off the bench and the other with a big contract and a rep for disappearing in the playoffs.

You do if you have no hope of resigning him, especially if you still have hope of having a competitive team if you can get the right pieces back in return. Obviously none of the three Lakers are Howard, but the Magic can win with those guys.

    Re: Howard to Lakers?

As a Laker's fan, I'd take that deal and sleep very well. I don't know what happened to Gasol, but he disappeared come the end of the this season. He was getting fed the ball in the post for scores, and passed the ball back out. I don't imagine that sat too well with Lakers management, I'm not surprised to hear his name coming up in trade deals.

Bynum can play, and play agressive...when he isn't hurt. Odom could still probably perform at his current level for a couple of more years before he drops off. I have mixed feelings about two, but Howard has a ton of upside.
