    Cuban interested in Dodgers???

Los Angeles Dodgers intrigue Mark Cuban despite 'mess' - ESPN

Everyone knows Cuban wanted to buy into baseball at some point, with both the Cubbies and then the Rangers, but what about the Dodgers? To quote Cuban, "If the deal is right and they're fixable, then I'm very interested."

I don't see why MLB would want to keep Cuban out of baseball now. He won a championship with the Mavs finally and keeps the best interest of his club at heart. He's definitely got the cash to keep the team afloat, and he has the over-the-top personality to succeed in LA.

    Here's why Cuban won't own a team:
Former MLB commissioner Fay Vincent frowns on idea of Mark Cuban as baseball owner - ESPN Dallas

I think it's more important for owners to be gentlemen, play by the rules, respect the authorities, do what's good for the sport, than it is to manage his franchise into total success," he said. "The subtleties make the difference. George Steinbrenner was a real problem in baseball, and I think Mark Cuban is a real problem in basketball."
MLB wants quiet compliant owners not guys who will rock the boat in any way shape or form.

How'd that work out with Frank McCourt??? Jury is still out on the Rickett's Group, but that could end disastrously as well. MLB is stupid if they don't let a successful franchise owner like Cuban make a fair bid if he wants.

Cuban hasn't been exactly working financial wonders with Mavs. They've been bleeding money ever since Cuban has owned them, and they are now declining in value. We'll see if the championship changes that. Unless the Dodgers turn around fast, it would be pretty difficult for an owner to be bleeding cash out through two professional teams.

Dodgers are the baseball equivalent of a "distressed property" in real estate. Any savvy investor with the means and inclination to own an MLB franchise is salivating at the possibilities.

As a Dodger fan I'd be fine with Cuban. My dream scenario is the group organized by Orel Hershiser and Steve Garvey become the next owners and they talk Mike Scoscia into coming back home. But McCourt is being stubborn right now, and we'll see if he can make payroll on July 1. If he can't, things could happen fast.

Cuban would be great for MLB and I'd take him as a Dodger fan. Garvey and Hershiser would also make me smile. I don't see how McCourt will be able to meet the payroll coming up after MLB turned down the Fox deal. He's a dead man walking and the sooner the better.

McCourt is easily the most hated man in LA right now (unless you're an Angels fan).

Yeah...seems pretty clear that MLB wants McCourt gone.

For this Dodger fan, Garvey/Hershiser >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cuban.

Yes, Cuban has won with the Mavs (and he's driven to win), but he's done it by outspending his income year after year. That model is not sustainable, and I think would be a (legitimate) reason why MLB keeps him out. When the Mavs can win and turn a consistent profit, then perhaps it's time to let Cuban into MLB.

That's not the reason Selig and his cronies don't want Cuban buying a team. He was interested in the Cubs and Rangers before and they said no. The chances are he's not going to own an MLB team anytime soon which I think is unfortunate because MLB needs some new, young blood.

I'd love to see Garvey, Hersh, etc. put a group together. Although the organization has always kept former Dodgers in and around the club and treated them really well, it's been lacking in the upper level management for too long.

Basically he's saying that Cuban wouldn't be like the rest of the owners who care more about stuffing their already fat wallets with even more money than they need versus reinvesting it into the team and facilities to put a winner on the field and keep the fans happy. That's essentially what happened with the Pittsburgh Pirates, they were promised if they passed the legislation to build that beautiful stadium they built that the ownership would then be able to invest more in the team and have the revenue to put a competitive team on the field. Well they got their new stadium but they still are one of the lowest payrolls in baseball and whenever they get decent talent that comes up in the system they trade them off before they get too expensive.

I think all pro sport teams need to be required to open up their books for public record every year to show exactly where all that money is going because there are some owners right now that are making lots of money and spending very little on payroll and the fans are the ones getting the screw job in the end being strung out on empty promises that one day they'll put a winning team on the field in exchange for your fan loyalty.

    Re: Cuban interested in Dodgers???

Cuban would be just what the Dodgers need ,and the MLB for that matter....but it won't happen because of the "current owners vote on who can and who can't own a team rule"....I believe this rule has led to the downfall of the MLB....and the dulling of it.....Outside of George Steinbrenner and Marge Schott, may they both rest in peace ,I can't think of any owner that has had any sort of a distinct personality in the MLB in a long time....

As a Giants fan I say keep McCourt in, no to Cuban. That being said, baseball is stupid for blackballing him out of ownership.
