As a Vikings fan I really want the Lock out to end so Ponder can get some chemistry going, and I want an idea of what the offense looks like.

The minimum payroll is absolutely huge. I think it was one of the best things to come out of the NHL lockout and has helped create a parity in the league that wasn't seen in the early part of the decade.

The rookie wage scale is huge. The fact that rookies are the top paid players on some teams is just stupid. A team that is rebuilding should have to back themselves into a corner because they have a high draft pick. they should be able to spend that money on other players to help their young guys.

I agree. The SVP show was saying something like a third of the teams in the league were below 90% of the salary cap last year. The proposal is to set the minimum at approx 90-93% of the cap.

I don't like Thursday night games every week. That hurts college FB. I like Thursday and Saturday games AFTER CFB is over in early December.

Re: Details Released on Potential CBA

built-in mechanisms that require teams to spend close to 100 percent of the salary cap, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton. The mandatory minimum spending increase is an element that concerns lower-revenue clubs, sources say.

For example, if the 2011 salary cap were to be at $120 million, a team would have to have a cash payroll of close to $120 million. In the previous collective bargaining agreement, the team payroll floor was less than 90 percent of the salary cap and was only in cap figures, not cash.
    That would be just stupid.

Re: Details Released on Potential CBA

Love the rookie wage scale...long overdue. I would have been ok with 18 game regular season but I can see why the players were against it so I don't mind that it will stay at 16.

I don't like the idea of Thursday night games all year. Keep it on Sundays and Mondays until late in the year. If it goes up against a quality college FB game, I'll watch college 100 percent of the time (unless the Broncos are playing)

Curious what your reasoning is for that opinion.

Love the rookie wage scale. It has gotten to the point that it has been a detriment to a team to have the top pick. This should also make it easier for a team that needs a lot of pieces to trade down and get more picks.

Teams would have to overpay crappy players to reach that level. It hurts teams trying to build for the future because it limits the amount of cap space they can have available.

Only if they're doing it wrong. Instead of paying that crappy player, why don't they go out and sign a better one in free agency?

And anyway, paying the players more is kind of the point. Under the proposal, the players are taking a big cut in their share of the revenues. One of the ways that they're making up for it is by getting a floor on the salary cap. That's the give and take.

And who knows how it will be implemented? Perhaps there will be a time table associated with it where teams couldn't be below a certain level for more than 1 season. There are any number of ways to implement it so teams will be able to build for the future. Some kind of action is needed however, because some teams have proven that they won't spend the money to make their teams competitive.

What if there's not one available? Also, I think I agree more with a salary floor than a cap. Wish they wouldn't bring that back.

Re: Details Released on Potential CBA

Just heard on another message board that they will likely announce a new deal on or before 6/30 - free agency will open 7/8 - Bears and Rams will open camp 7/23 to give them two weeks to prep for the HOF game on 8/7.
