Question about residential smoke alarms for new construction...

Hey Fanatics. The wife and I bought a new home in April of last year and the smoke alarms are tied in the electrical and have battery backups. Tonight every once in a while all the alarms will go off for about 5 to 10 seconds and stop. Would this be an alert to change the batteries...I guess I am used to alarms making one little beep when the batteries are going out now all the alarms were going off..is this new code for new construction? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Question about residential smoke alarms for new construction...

Mine have done that before too. I replaced all the batteries because it is easier than hunting for one that might be low and then clean them all. Now I just clean them with a vacuum and compressed air. Usually do the cleaning every 6-8 months.
