    Attaching speakers to vinyl siding

What's the best way to do this? My house is about 6 years old and I think the only thing behind the siding is xps (or whatever it's called).

I would assume if they are light enough you could zip them right into the siding and whatever is behind it and be done.

Re: Attaching speakers to vinyl siding

Just screw them through the siding. Yes, you're penetrating your houses' moisture barrier, but the amount of moisture that gets through is negligible. On a side note, make sure to use a treated screw to prevent them from rusting.

Edit: If you're paranoid - get a rubber gasket and place it between the siding and speaker's support.

Silicone caulk would solve the moisture barrier.

I'm not sure what "xps" is. If it's that foam crap I had on my old house (a fad replacement for good old plywood in the 90's) 4lbs may indeed be too heavy if you don't find the studs.

I just mounted an antenna to the side of my house, which has plywood under the siding so it was no sweat.

Why don't you hit a stud, they are every 16 inches.

Otherwise, just make a stand, if you have a deck mount it there, etc.

Am assuming you mean "OSB"; get a stainless steel screw and caulk a little around it should be good to go.

I thought about doing this but my deck is garbage (small) and then the speakers would be about a foot from the ear of the people sitting down.
