    Anyone Buying Stocks Right Now?

I have a few bucks to spend and am back in the market for some individual stocks. I spent most of the day reading up on some prosects and have a potential wishlist started. Does anyone have any other ideas or thoughts?

Things are looking cheap out there right now, here's what I looked at today...

YGE, TRW, WF, CX, VALE, FCX, MSFT, SPWRA, GE, CNI, AAPL, NSC, FSLR, BGC, USO, UNG

I was buying last summer during their little oil spill, and got out when it got back to $47. They have a pretty large presence here in SW CO and I'm unimpressed with them as a company. I think I'll just wait for another major oil spill and repeat the process with (insert oil company here). They do pretty much print money though, which is never a bad business model.

I am out for a bit, I will get back in bigtime when the down hits 10k in a few months.

I bought exxon as it dropped with the bp spill and now it is all the way back up and I sold about a month ago. Nice payout.

Short sellers have been all over solar stocks lately like Yingli Green and First Solar, so they are cheap. Nobody knows when they will let up so they could go lower, but I don't see how you could go wrong, especially with Yingli, at the price it's at. More countries turning away from nuclear has to be great for solar stocks in the long term. You might want to consider stock symbol KWT, which is an etf made up of a basket of solar stocks.

Good info, I pulled the trigger on YGE this morning. Getting a solar for that P/E and their upside seems like a no brainer.

Do not buy UNG. This ETF is one of the worst performing ETF's of all time due to contango issues, even though it has risen significantly recently, it still lags natty futures significantly. It historically has trailed the futures by 25% or more over 6 month periods consistantly.

I would look at FCG as a natural gas play. It is an ETF as well, but invests most of it's holdings in natural gas companies that comprise the ISE-REVERE Natural Gas Index.

I have an emergency fund that I would like to keep at low risk. For the last 2 years I've had it in the ETF TIP.

Any thoughts on PTTAX or something similar?

Re: Anyone Buying Stocks Right Now?

TIP is too volatile for an emergency fund, IMO although you've done very well with it during that time frame.

PTTAX is less volatile, but SHY might be a better option. That is a short term treasury etf with maturities of 1-3 years. It won't likely return as much as PTTAX though.

Just depends on whether you have enough money on hand to cash flow small emergenices and what your risk tolerance is.

I bought the TIP at something like 101, it's sitting at about 110, and I have some triggers in places at 105. Do you think it would go down fast enough where I couldn't sell within a few dollars of that 105? It seems like it makes very small moves. The monthly dividends are nice.

I'll have to check out SHY. I just remembered that I have a little of this emergency fund in VFSTX and also VWELX.

For my "play money/car fund" it's really hard for me to buy anything but company stock when I get a 15%+ discount.

I've kept in the markets, but started selling in the money calls against my stocks last month and will continue to do so through the end of the summer when, (hopefully) the technicals improve. Hopefully the S&P holds 1,250.

I am interested in your stratgey. Are you long stock and call options? Thats what it kind of sounds like.
