    Low Post Presence

Looking at our 4 big bodies I'm wondering if Gibson is the guy that's going to handle the dirty work down low and earn the bulk of the minutes opposite RW. Royce has strong ball handling skills and I'm guessing he'll come get the ball a lot and around the pinch. Watching the CCL highlights Booker and Railey mostly shot from the wing. Ejim and Babb will likely get some time up front but that forces White to gaurd big bodies and risk foul trouble.

and I'm all out of gum.

Valid concern/point. The big men I knew growing up loved to play outside in an informal setting so i'm not going to get to concerned but it might be an issue.

    Re: Low Post Presence

Railey seems to be a fairly athletic and imposing presence on the inside, defensively. He has long arms and moves fairly well...and has pretty good timing with his jumping. I think a lot of us are underrating him...perhaps due to his off-court antics...and he may have a bigger impact this season than we expect.

Yes, I'm not gonna expect anything from him until he shows he can keep out of trouble. But even if he does he still has to learn to stay out of foul trouble to log extended minutes.

    Re: Low Post Presence

Cydkar is right IMO. Big guys like to play outside in pickup games because they never get to in games.

I'm sure RW will play a good deal outside, but I think it will be less than in the CCL and my guess on Booker is that he will play much less outside than in CCL. Railey is more of a back to the basket player, but he also has a good 15 foot jumper. It is good to see that they have good perimeter skills though.

I think if Gibson comes in and does like to stay down low and be physical that he could get some PT in the fall.

    Re: Low Post Presence

It's a valid concern. I don't think the team is going to have problems scoring. I'm more interested to see if White and Booker and mix it up in the post. That's why Godfrey's departure will be a big lost this season. I think he was going to play big minutes being the low post presence and may have even started. Hopefully Gibson can Railey can step it up.

I don't think he had very good timing with his jumping last year. He would come in and get 2 or 3 fouls in less than 5 minutes. I don't think it's underrating, I think its more of just people are skeptical and they have every right to be skeptical until he proves himself.

    Re: Low Post Presence

I'm not really worried. I think that Railey will end up there. Or perhaps it will be Booker. Or Gibson. And while not optimal Ejim can play the 4. So we have 4 bodies, all with talent but not much experience.

Here is the deal. We will play with 3 guards so there are 2 post positions. If White is a starter that only leaves one open spot. 4 guys competing for 1 spot; somebody will pan out. And the others will back them up.

The other way to look at it, is that we are far, far better off than last year and that didn't turn out too bad (considering the circumstances) so things look pretty good compared to that.

The real unknown is injuries. That is the risk with CCL and off season stuff. Pray nobody gets seriously hurt. If nobody goes down and the extra experience gets people ready (like the Italy trip) post play should be fine.

Mark it down. We will be fine. Booker, Gibson and Railey to back up the post.

    Re: Low Post Presence

I thing we run a lot of 4 guard sets because thats were will will create matchup problems. Too many good players to put 2 people out of position to fit a traditional lineup. Plus Fred like uptempo which favors 4 guard lineups.

    Sledge/Mcgee
    Christopherson
    Allen/Babb
    Ejim/White
    White/Booker

    Ahh too many options!
