    Premium sites

CycloneFanatic.com is a great site, especially for a free site, but occasionally I hear somebody say something about "premium" sites.

What are the premium sites about Iowa State athletics? What do they cost? What are the advantages (particularly what do they do that Cyclonefanatics.com doesn't do, if anything)? Is it just about getting news a day earlier sometimes?

    Re: Premium sites

The 'premium' site for iowa state would be Rivals.

Its main advantage over CF would be better recruiting info. There are some insider posters on there that may get some info, but there are also insiders on here.

    Re: Premium sites

Anytime I hear anything about something really good from an insider website it only seems to take a few mins. or so before we have the full story here as well.

    Re: Premium sites

No advantages to CR or CN for ISU fans over CF. Maybe a tad more football recruiting coverage on CR but they don't do anything with basketball recruiting and there is little content

Premium sites weed out a lot of the riff raff. There tends to be fewer trolls when you have to pay a site.

How about insider info on the Athletic Dept itself, such as recruiting of coaches?

Opportunities to get extra tickets at a decent price or buy a single game parking passes for tailgating?

Or Q&A directly with coaches occasionally?

Premium sites are websites, but they are premium ones.

All of that has appeared on cyclonefanatic.

This is definitely not true. CR definitely has its share of trolls, from those that start fights in every thread (or cant resist targeting certain posters), to those who ***** incessantly, to those who whine and complain about any 'off topic' threads, even if there's like 5 new threads a day over there during the offseason.

Like I said in the original post, CycloneFanatic is a great site. And I like an occasional beating of a troll.

But do you get significantly more and/or better info such as is listed above (other than recruiting of athletes)?

No, everything that you can get from paying for the premium sites you can get here shortly after.

    Re: Premium sites

They cost about $100 a year. I have been a member at CR for Rivals.

As far as info: You will get some things with football recruiting. You get some info but you don't get a lot of earth shattering stuff. As far as the members there, most of the people in the know seem to have AD connections and get some info in terms of projects and things like that. There is sometimes some personnel info, but not a lot and not usually before it hits here. If you join there it should be for the football recruiting information. I feel Chis is miles and miles ahead in basketball. Seriously, it's not close. He always get's stuff before here.

In the future: At some point I am going to subscribe to 247sports. They are new and someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the midwest personnel from RIvals started 247sports. They have a guy I follow on twitter who is pretty good about ISU news. One thing I may end up liking or disliking about 247 is that in their rankings, they are usually quite different than either Scout or Rivals. THey really march to their own beat. For instance, in last years class, they had Darian Cotton as one of our top signees. No one else had that at all. I think we will see a little more info out of 247 for the in state prospects because of where they came from.

In short, if you want to just casually pay some attention to recruiting, follow guys on twitter. They will give you a lot. I follow 247's Josh Newberg and RIval's Chris Nee. They both are Florida guys and it seems like I get something about ISU daily. I honestly learn as much from them as I do reading the Rivals site. The only thing missing there is some interviews which may or may not give you something. Anymore, interviews don't mean anything. You can't tell anything from them because kids want to be liked by everyone and they know who they are talking to so they will say good things.

    (Sorry for the length)

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

    Re: Premium sites

The only advantage Cyclonereport has left is football recruiting and the rivals network. Basketball recruiting is not a priority there for some unknown, mysterious reason.

There is very little inside info on CR that doesn't come up 12 seconds later on CF.

I am not sure the Scout site has a single member but they do have premium articles from time to time.

Thanks for all the thoughts. It sounds like CF is even better than I thought. Or you are all just aliases for CW.

The only part of my question that hasn't been answered is whether CR is a good place to get extra tickets at a decent price?
