    Destination Wedding

Just wondering if any of you have done a destination wedding? I recently got engaged and future Mrs. AllBig12Drinker and myself are looking to do a destination wedding in January/February.

    Current Ideas:

    Hawaii
    Virgin Islands
Florida (Marco Island or the Keys)

Some in the wedding party will have newborns and we don't know if they will be able to handle a flight out of the Midwest to Hawaii or that would probably be the 1st choice. We want to go somewhere where the weather will be nice. We also want it to be a place where the other people that go can use it as vacation. I thought about trying to do it in Phoenix when they have the Phoenix open but I'm not sold on the idea. Thanks in advance for the help.

Singapore. Fly from Newark. It's only a 19 hour flight.

Thanks for the advice, she doesn't want to do Mexico but we are going down there next week for a buddies wedding so maybe she will change her mind.

We got married in St. Lucia and it was awesome. Those that could make it had a blast. Might not be the best idea for newborns though.

    Re: Destination Wedding

We went to a wedding in Vegas, and while it was fun, there was quite a bit of extra stress on everyone involved as it was a money strain. I would highly recommend having a reception locally to help with the people who want to help you celebrate your day but simply can't afford to go with you.

We had a reception in our hometown too. Definitely must do this.

A buddy of mine just got married in the Dominican Republic whose wedding I was in. It was a great time, and I would definitely recommend that as a location to look into as well.

I have been to Punta cana at the Hard Rock resort. VERY NICE place.

We just had our wedding in a terrific resort north of Scottsdale, It went perfect and all had a great time. The golf was amazing.

    Re: Destination Wedding

My wife and I had our wedding in Vegas (Mandalay Bay Valley of the Falls, which is outdoors). It was great. Neither of us wanted a huge wedding, so we just had family and a couple of friends there. They had the wedding video online 30 minutes after we finished. We also had a local reception.

Our wedding was a late March wedding, and the weather was perfect, which might not be the case in Vegas in January/February.

    Re: Destination Wedding

Just don't be offended if those with a newborn can't make it or partake in the fun.
Had a close friend of ours with a one month old whose brother got married out of the country. Bride got very ****** that they were even considering bringing newborn along, and because of that our friend ended up not even going. Caused quite the family riff.
Most people understand the chaoticness that is having a newborn, but some still think its like having a pet. With I could put a jimlad after that

    Re: Destination Wedding

I got married in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic last November and the Mrs and I both agreed it was perfect and would have done it no other way.

We had her parents, my parents and all of our siblings (15 total people) go down with us.

We then had a reception back in Ames the weekend after we got back.

It was pretty easy, not very expensive and stress free.

My wedding cost all of about $500, but our honeymoon was the "destination". Everyone is different in how they approach these things, but I had a buddy who spent $30,000 on his wedding and regrets it ever since.

30,000 for a one day event is dumb.
