Thumbs up Cyclone Tailgaters: Pick up your trash

When I go through the lots on the way into the game or when walking back after a game, the lots are littered with all sorts of trash - from paper, used charcoal and of course beverage cans.

How difficult is it, to take a trash bag with you to each game, put your trash in it and toss it in the nearest trash can/dumpster on your way into the game?

I'd venture to guess the messiness is just one of the reasons the glass bottles have been "banned", people tossing 'em on the ground and breaking them - rather than putting 'em in a trash bag.

C'mon folks, pick up after yourselves and help the staff out!

I tie a garbage bag to my side mirror and when we come out of the game most times somebody has taken it to the trash otherwise I just put it in the trash.

They also give free trash bags when you go into the lot!

Same here. Last week we talked about how much money the can guys have made off of us over the last 6 years...then we decided we really didn't want to know because its probably a lot.

Re: Cyclone Tailgaters: Pick up your trash

And watch where you dump red hot coals from your grill. I was walking through G7 between rows of cars after last game and as many of you know they don't have much lighting there. I stepped in something that didn't feel like wet grass. I looked back and it was a pile of charcoal still red hot, and I was wearing sandals. I was lucky I wasn't badly burned. Throw some water on the coals for pete's sake!

Well there was one can guy on campus I was told that made around 20k a year in can recycling. Probably a campus tale, but I bet he makes a bunch. He was out there every day all day. That would be a good job. Could dress down, tax free income, work outside.

ya know what is funny? we have some of the best fans around. I have seen complete strangers who are ISU fans who just go off when someone around them calls out the Cyclones, just the quickest to defend our team, yet every year it seems like we keep calling each other out on support. JUST BE A CYCLONE people, no one should have to ask what that means. We have a great fanbase, stop the negativity, I know what a rough loss does and makes people look around at one another, but seriously - LET'S GET PUMPED FOR BEATING THE SCHOOL I ATTEND! LOL!!! Go Cyclones!

As far as the trash, I've really noticed the correlation between a big win over a favored team and a loss to a lesser opponent. There was a real mess after the Kent State game and you know what? The last time it REALLY caught my eye was back in '05 after the win over #8 iowa, Ames just looked like a disaster zone in some places...nothing that couldn't be picked up, but still different to see. I know I try and do my part to clean up my mess and even those around me, but its not too hard bcuz I basically leave Ames with everything I came with. Just go a little out of your way to help clean everybody, we have a tailgating experience to be very proud of, we don't want to make something so great look trashy.

ISU pays good money to charity groups to clean up the lots...what would those groups do for cash if the lots were clean. And I wouldn't want ISU paying them just to walk around clean lots.

Wow, so lets just dump out our garbage cans instead then and just drop as we eat and drink.

That doesn't mean you have to go out of your way by leaving a couple of pieces of trash that you left around your tailgate site just to make their job more difficult. I guess some people didn't learn the lesson from their parents to clean up after themselves.
