    Auto Glass Tint Installers

Any good recommendations in the Ames/Des Moines area? Also, what's a decent price to expect?

I don't have a recommendation for a place in Des Moines. I lived in northeast Iowa when I had my done and I just called the dealer my family uses. They have a tint guy come in about every other week to do tint. I paid about 200 for the rear doors and rear window done at 5%.

    Re: Auto Glass Tint Installers

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with any Des Moines/Ames Tint Company as well.

200 sounds steep. Last year when I looked around it was around 120 at a couple places for the back window and the two side windows of my car.

    Re: Auto Glass Tint Installers

I got mine done at a place on Merle Hay Rd, about 10 years ago. I'll try to dig up the name. I believe it was around $100 for the back windows, 2 side back windows (it was a coupe, so the 2 side back windows were tiny) plus the front passenger and driver side windows. I got my back 3 windows at 5% and the front windows at 30%. If I did it all over again, I would not do the front windows. I have gotten about 3 tickets for window tint and those suck.

    Re: Auto Glass Tint Installers

I got my windows done at Autotoyz in Iowa City. It was 240ish bucks for all windows and the rear windows. I ended up going 20 on the rear three and 50 on the front two. Haven't been bothered by the cops at all with this setup...and usually in Coralville they are pretty nasty about window tint.

    Re: Auto Glass Tint Installers

I just had my back 3 windows on my 4Dr Accord done a few months ago at Precision Window Tint on E 14th. I think it was $150 for the rear doors and back window. They did a good job with very few bubbles (which they fixed), and they have a lifetime warranty so if there is anything that you don't like, they will redo.

Sounds like a decent deal.. I swear I called them last year and got quoted 120... Inflation is hitting us hard apparently.. Have you had them fix anything with the window tint? Curious if they actually live up to the lifetime warranty deal?

    Re: Auto Glass Tint Installers

We had them on both my wife's suv and my car, but my wife was pulled over and ticketed one day. I removed it from the front two and have never done it again. Her tinting on the front was a shade LESS than the factory on the back windows. It stinks, but I understand the law.

You don't need to offer any reason to be pulled over, so I would recommend staying away from the front. The cost was less than $150 for my five windows, and less than a $100 for my wife's front two as her back three were already done.

I hear a lot of good things about Best window tinting in Clive. I just called and was quoted $180 for 5 windows on my 300C, and that includes a lifetime warranty.

Best to check on what is legal for Iowa, tickets add up and likely lower resale value if they are too dark.

    Re: Auto Glass Tint Installers

Basically any tint on the front 2 windows is going to be considered illegal in the state of IA. What comes from the factory technically 70% (meaning it blocks 30% of light)and thats what the legal amount is.

Around the Des Moines area, you really only have to worry about the state troopers picking you up. The other agencies in the area dont seem to really bother with it.

Yea, I understand the laws etc and I am a lil leery about doing the front two. The car already screams pull me over, so I am not sure I want anything else on the car to add to that. Plus, if the tint causes them to pull me over, they more than likely will find something else.

I am not worried about resale.
    A) I have no plans to sell the car.
    B) Tint can be removed in like 5-10 minutes no more than 30 if I am being extra uber cautious.

I just looked it up and it was only $135 for the back half of the car. Other than a few bubbles, I haven't needed anything fixed.

What percent? Any issues there with police? I have a few friends with pretty dark tint and neither have gotten in too much trouble. Both have had one ticket each for tint, but one was pulled over for speeding and he got checked, the other got pulled over because he didn't have his new registration sticker on his car. In both cases they got tickets for tint because they were pulled over for other reasons, not because they got stopped for the tint.

Just curious. I am iffy on what to do about the side windows (front as I have no back passenger windows). I think they said 90 for the back window and like 30 for the sides, so I guess I would be out 30 plus a ticket if I got pulled over for it. Hmmm...
