Numbers stamped in concrete along S 16th

As I was riding my bike on South 16th on the east side of Dayton I noticed numbers stamped into the concrete near the white line at regular intervals. They were sequentially numbered (4338, 4337, 4336, ...) and decreasing as I went west. Does anyone know what these are for?

Station numbers. Roads have numeric values assigned to them as they go along called stations. It ties the engineering documents to the road. Also a way for cities to mark repairs, etc. Kind of like mile markers but on a much more micro scale.

Thanks! I was wondering if it's something like that.
