SEC makes changes to Football recruiting

...despite the unanimous wishes of their coaches.

SEC caps signees per team at 25, down from 28 - ESPN

They also closed the loophole allowing them to back count scholarships for early enrollments by JUCO players.

This is a pretty big step for them, one that the SEC coaches did not want.

Perhaps trying to do a little damage control and remove a little bit of the tarnish that the Cam Newton fiasco left on the SEC's image??? Maybe a pre-empitve action to prevent NCAA intervention??? Or maybe they just made the change because it was the right thing to do. In any case, I'm glad to see it.

agreed. I understand the coaches not wanting to give it up. Oversigning is a useful tool, and in some cases, I'm sure they can find reasonable justification for it. But there's no excuse for Houston Nutt signing 37 recruits a couple years ago at Ole Miss. It's very difficult to put a good PR spin on that.

Also it looks like they changed who oversees Medical hardship exemptions, so hopefully it puts a lid on Alabama's mysterious tendency of having upperclassmen suffer career ending injuries that allow them to remain on scholarship but not count toward the limit of 85.

I have family in Georgia and I have tried telling them the SC is the dirtiest conference in american sports. They don't believe me (big surprise).

I'm kind of iffy on them lowering the cap, but the loopholes definitely needed to be closed. Setting the cap at 28 was big, not sure they gave it enough time and tracked it enough to see if they really needed to lower it.
