    Cyclone Fanatics in Indianola

Fanatics, I'll be accepting a position in Indianola this Monday and I would just like to know a little more about the area (good places to rent, eat, drink, workout). If you have any suggestions or comments about the area, I would love to hear about it.

Don't do it. Just kidding...kind of. Ask clonefan32...he loves indianola more than life itself. I'd recommend one stop for some tacos followed by a trip to the zoo bar.

Where are you currently living now? Does the job require you to live in Indianola?

I've only been to Indianola a few times and that was to get my license renewed. I'm guessing you are a young, single dude and would probably have more fun living near the metro.

The Sports Page is a great sports bar/restraunt. (I've been known to hang around there) Anytime fitness is probably the best gym but there is plans for a YMCA in the future. There is another gym on the west end of town that would be worth checking into. All in all I think its a pretty good town that has things to offer and close enough to Des Moines.

Pretty accurate. Right now, I live in Dyersville. I'm originally from Cedar Rapids though.

I agree. La Casa is a good, inexpensive Mexican restaurant. There is some good pizza on the square. Lots of parks and good basketball courts (thanks to the Chris Street foundation). Pretty decent pool with a nice big water slide. If you ever want to get above 20 mph driving, you might have to leave town (while passing everyone on the right, since no one seems to have any clue that 65/69 uses the left lane to pass). Overall I like the town pretty well.

I really have no opinion on the town as I don't know a lot about it. I can't imagine the night life is to crazy but it does have a college in the town so I might be wrong. It would put you about 20-25 min to downtown Des Moines and 30-35 out west (would be my guess)

It is the county seat for Warren county so it's going to have everything you need to live.

Simpson doesn't really impact the town that much. Great town to ride your bike all over. Some killer hills though :)

I know they've got some new shopping stores and a few new resturnats...but mainly, Indianola is pretty much quiet....except during the ballon festival.

Welcome! Its not hard to find something to do. I recommend walking/biking through Simpson (when school is in) on a sunny warm day you'll see why

    Re: Cyclone Fanatics in Indianola

Given your life situation, I'd recommend living in DSM for now. It's about a 15 mile commute one way. More options for renting and things like that. Plus, if it's going to be a long term position, you'll have an opportunity to get to know Indianola for yourself before jumping in.

Indianola seems like a nice town when I've driven through, but more of a place to raise a family than be a bachelor.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

    Re: Cyclone Fanatics in Indianola

I think its a great town, but I've never had to live there as a young, single, non college kid. DSM is close so I'd recommend living there to be close to work and just coming to DSM when you want to. Just get out and drive around, you can see everything pretty easily, its obviously not a huge place. Best of luck on your new town/job. When ISU isnt playing, Simpson football can be pretty entertaining.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.
