    Sindlinger shoots 68!?!?

First round action for the Iowa Girls State Golf Meet, yesterday, returning champ. Jessie Sindlinger shoots a 68 at Adel. She shot 32 on the front side...Wow! She's the daughter of former Hawkeye Mark Sindlinger who played football and wrestled. That's impressive!

I was about to jump in with a correction then I see she is 3A. The 4A champ is at the Colorado Open.

Not trying to sound like an ***, but they are playing it from 5400 yards. Top girls golfers should shoot that low on a course that short. Women's college golf is played 800-1000 yards longer, so she better get used to that. I have no idea how old she is, is she playing golf somewhere next year? Nevertheless, still a solid performance.

She's a sophmore. She won it as a freshman last year, beating a 2 time defending champ in the process. The scary thing is, she's got a freshman teammate, Meagan Joerger, that has beaten her at a number of meets this year. I don't know if Charles City has the depth to win it, but their top 2 will stack up with anybody.

    Re: Sindlinger shoots 68!?!?

Sindlinger shoots a +3, 75 today and brings home her 2nd individual title by 5 strokes. Joerger finishes 5th and Charles City wins the team title....congrats to them. I'm pretty sure they return their top 3 scorers, and maybe their top 4 for next year.

It also should be added for those that live out of the area, a -4 yesterday would have been especially impressive given that the wind was blowing about 40 mph most of the day.

5400?? That IS short, but still a good score. Probably hitting a PW or 56 into every green. Good players can be deadly with those clubs.

I'm not impressed. I could shoot 68 and wouldn't even have to play the back 9 to do it.

I played football against Mark in high school and lets just say it wasn't pretty. Blocking that guy was like trying to block a truck.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Mark is the best athlete to ever come out of Charles City when you consider what he did on the football field and the mat. His daughter pretty much lives at the golf course and when she's not there, it sounds like she's working on her swing at home. His influence in her success is very evident.

Are you talking strictly high school accomplishments because if so Drew Kelly might have something to say about that.

Isaac Wendland and Gregg Offerman both have a few high school accomplishments too. Ike probably moreso than Offerman.

I was more combining high school success with what they did after graduation. DK was a stud, especially when you factor in how good he was in baseball, but Sindo did more on the college level being an all conference football player and all american wrestler.

I'm not a CC native so others might have a different, or better informed opinion.

I was thinking of Offerman too but couldn't remember his name. Yeah he was as dominant in track as Kelly was on the mat. Kelly also wasn't bad in football and baseball too.

I guess I view it as Sindlinger being elite, D1 material in two sports. Kelly went to UNI to wrestle and play baseball but didn't make a major impact in either. Offerman was a beast in track, but again, he never tore it up in college and the same can be said for Wentland in track and CC. Now, please don't think that I'm in any way taking away from how good these guys were in high school, because they were absolutely ELITE.

If we're going by accomplishments after high school, Ryan Brunner probably was next in line behind Sindlinger with what he did at UNI playing baseball.

On another note, Beth Wagner from Ankeny won the 4A individual title. She has signed to play at ISU in the fall.

I believe Greg Brunner is the only one NOT mentioned to be earning a paycheck playing professional basketball across the pond! Also, I'm not sure anyone could stop David Rotinghouse (sp) when he was in the zone?
