Wild vs Jets will be good to watch once both teams get their crap together.

Good move. Now lets get teams out of Florida, Nashville, Dallas, Carolina, Columbus, and Phoenix

Carolina needs to go back to Hartford. Phoenix should go to Quebec City. Florida to Milwaukee.

Tampa Bay would disagree with you - that franchise is solid, and is every Detroiter's second favorite team.

Second time an NHL franchise moved from Atlanta to Canada. The Atlanta Flames moved to Calgary in 1980.

    Re: Thrashers to Winnipeg

Why was this thread labelled with a thumbs down? I think Winnipeg is definitely an improvement over Atlanta. However, I don't think it's the best option compared to Quebec City or Hamilton. Those two, along with Seattle and Kansas City, should be given some consideration when Phoenix finally gives up the ghost.

Winnipeg has some things going in its favor that it didn't have when the team moved to Phoenix in the first place, notably the equity between the US and Canadian dollars. The Moose have shown phenomenal support for an AHL team. But can it sustain an NHL team again over a period of years? I guess we'll see.

    Re: Thrashers to Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Quebec City and Hamilton are all about the same size. In Winnipeg, there is less competition w/other NHL teams (Toronto and Montreal).

Milwaukee needs an NHL team, big time. No reason to move the Stars or Preds, IMO. They are popular in their cities.

I'd move the Coyotes to KC and the Panthers to Milwaukee. Maybe the Hurricane back to Hartford.

    Re: Thrashers to Winnipeg

I don't have a problem with the ones that have actually caught on, but it is nice to see a team move back up into a norhtern market that makes a bit more sense. I don't know if going back to Hartford or Quebec necessarilly makes sense with teams in NYC and Montreal (although looking at Wikipedia I guess Quebec City is bigger than I thought it would be). It would also be nice to see teams in places like Seattle or KC that I'm sure would be more supportive of a hockey franchise than Arizona or Florida.

    Re: Thrashers to Winnipeg

I live in Florida and I can tell you a lot of people don't even know that the Florida Panthers exist. However, they do have the Blackhawks old GM, so maybe they can become relevant. I don't think any team should move back to Hartford. Seattle and KC sound good. KC has that ginormous arena and I think Seattle would love to have one after it lost its basketball team. Don't move Tampa, they are solid and I also think Carolina is fairly solid as a franchise. Move Phoenix.

    Re: Thrashers to Winnipeg

Quebec City is a little larger than Winnipeg, has a huge history of French-Canadian players, and, most importantly, is building a $1 billion arena.

Hamilton, while smaller than Winnipeg, is close to other Greater Toronto Area metros, has a more historic following than Manitoba, and has Jim Balsillie foaming at the mouth to take a team there. Obviously the two huge obstacles with Hamilton are the NHL's ostracizing of Balsillie and the legal halo around Toronto (and Buffalo in other locations).

Agreed with the Stars and the Preds, they aren't going anywhere. Neither is Carolina. Phoenix will very soon; Florida and Columbus are conceivable; New York Islanders might be off the market now with the arena approval. Not too many foreseeable franchise moves, and expansion should be laughed off the table if it is ever brought up.

Why is everyone so gung ho about getting teams out of the south? Who the hell cares where the team is? Oh and for Winnipeg supposedly being such a great hockey town, didn't support the jets hardly is what I heard.

Not a very well thought out statement to say the least.
