I'll bet he got some kind of severance package from OSU, not 4 mil, but I'll bet it was decent.

He apparently earned those raises while openly allowing cheating in his program...

Not sure he's really losing anything.

Yes, by most accounts he's not really the coach anymore, he's just kind of there.

Paterno makes less, probably so Penn State can bump up the top assistant coaches salaries who basically coach the team

agreed. Still, if you would have told me at the start of the 2010 year that Paterno was going to outlast Tressel, I would have had a tough time believing you.

With the departure of Tressel, the quality of coaching in the big10 is way down IMO.

This makes Kirk Ferentz the highest paid coach in the Big 10 now...

Ya, but Joe Pa thinks it's 1970 and back then that was a lot of cash. And candy bars cost $.25

Joe Paterno has actually turned down more money which I think is pretty cool. He wants what is best for the University. I also saw a story on ESPN last year that stated he still uses an old rotary phone as it gives him time to think what he is going to say while he's dialing the numbers. I don't think JoePa knows about all that goes on around him but I do like the guy.

I'm amazed you could find a working rotary phone anywhere. I haven't seen one of those in a loooong time. Although it does bring back fond memories....

Ummm, 8-5, but your point is taken nonetheless. Was he worth the money when he went 11-2 the year before? I think coaches salaries should be allowed to be reduced if they have a crappy year, just like they are increased due to bonuses when the team has a great year.
