How will players react to Chizik?

It seems to me Chizik is much more of a straight shooter than McCarney, I won't go as far as to say Mac babied his players or sugarcoated things, but Chizik is quite a change. If you sucked, he will tell you that you sucked. He is brutally honest about how we are below average and that Bret Meyer was not good and that the O-line and D-line very much below average and below expectations right now. And I know Chizik will not put up with it.

I really wanna see what our team is made of and whether or not people will step up and use Chizik's critism to work harder on and off the field to better their play...or if they won't be able to handle it and keep playing below average football. I have faith in the caliber of guys we have on this team and I think they have the character to work and work to get better than where they are. How do you all feel about how they'll react to GC?

As far as D-Mac - he was a different person to the media/press. In the locker room and on the field, he didn't hesitate to get after a player.

Now, Chizik won't pull any punches it seems, so I do think he's a lot tougher and his expectations are clearer.

This next game defines Brett Meyer's senior year. He either plays well and keeps his starting spot and flounders and gets benched in favor of AA or PB. Chizik won't tolerate the mistakes.

Re: How will players react to Chizik?

He definitely provides a change of pace, one that we'd all agree was needed. I've heard from a few players that they are huge fans of his style. There is certain to be more than a few that aren't. But no matter how you slice it, he brings an attitude that this team sorely has lacked, even in the good ole Seneca days.

Give this thing time and we might see ISU with what we in the sports world like to call "swagger." Blythe has swagger, many other guys don't seem to. While Blythe is a great talent, he is not the most talented WR by any stretch. His confidence allows him to make some of the catches he makes. No fear...and that's what we're going to see if Chizik continues this approach.

I am really looking forward to seeing some Cyclone Swagger in the coming weeks. Let's see if we can build on that starting Saturday.

Re: How will players react to Chizik?

    WOW!

That press conference today was about the most refreshing thing I have seen/heard in a long time.

Reporter (paraphrased): "Gene, the offensive line seemed to do a good job on Thursday. Do you feel it is going to be a strength of this team?"

Chizik (paraphrased): "To be honest with you, NO. It might have seemed that way. But it looked very average to me.

    ----------------

As Chizik said, "The sand in the hour glass is falling..." (or however he said it). These players have to improve week to week or the staff is going to have to look to someone else. The level of accountability with this staff is very refreshing. I'm not saying it wasn't there during the McCarney era, but it definately wasn't evident to the public.

isucyclone4 -- I don't know how the players will react. One thing is for sure: if they don't react, they will not be an important part of this team. I have a feeling the players will respond.

    I Choose Chizik!

Not to be a d**k, but how do you know what Dmac was like in the locker room? And getting after guys on the field? All I saw him do was pat guys on the butt and clap in their ear until they couldn't hear anymore. That's not exactly "getting after them."

Like I said, in practice and behind closed doors in the locker room, he was different.

Re: How will players react to Chizik?

McCarney was only as good as his talent...and his recuiting was ultimately his undoing. That is still the name of the game for Chizik, get talent here. When I State won with Mac, there was no margin for error it seemed. We'll see what the Chizik team can do with this group of players.
