Scottie Pippen: James better than Jordan?

I realize he played with MJ, but that's a bold statement.

Re: Scottie Pippen: James better than Jordan?

I can kind of see Pippen's point that LeBron has the POTENTIAL to be a better all around player than MJ. He'll never be the scorer or shooter Jordan was. Jordan also played in a different era when the refs didn't get so involved (LBJ gets bail out calls MJ never got). It would have been interesting to see how LeBron dealt with the physical/dirty Bad Boy Pistons and Knicks.

Re: Scottie Pippen: James better than Jordan?

I don't follow NBA basketball closely anymore, but Jordan had aspects that never showed up on a stat sheet. As CyBroncos said, dealing with the Bad Boy Pistons/Knicks would be one of these aspects.

Let's remember the guy doesn't even have one ring yet.

I would say LeBron isn't the shooter MJ was but I think he's closing in in terms of being a scorer. LeBron is also a better passer. Defensively, I think they are close. LeBron can lock it down. MJ could lock it down but he didn't have the size and strength LeBron has. I mean, Rose is maybe the quickest player in the league and he couldn't get around LeBron. Of course, LeBron could play off him because of his length. MJ also got calls. Maybe not to the extent LeBron does, but he got calls and he had "tricks" that he would use that weren't necessarily legal.

He's always been jealous that MJ got all the credit

    Better talent? James
Better basketball player? Jordan by a mile 1/2

No one can say this until LeBron has stopped playing. He hasn't even played 10 years yet and doesn't have one ring.

Agreed. Everybody wants to compare, but it's a stupid conversation to have until James' career is over, or at least nearing an end.

That's it right there I think. Jordan had a competitive spirit more than most anyone. It was superhuman in itself.

    Rings:
    Jorge Posada: 4
    Johnny Bench: 2
    Ivan Rodriguez: 1
    Buster Posey: 1

Posada > All of the above?
    Posey = Rodriguez?

Derek Jeter as 5? rings and there's no way in HELL he's close to the best shortstop in MLB history.

Re: Scottie Pippen: James better than Jordan?

LeBron's size gives him an advantage defensively. Jordan was a great defender but he couldn't guard 4's or 5's like LeBron can. Also, Jordan was a great shooter after his first retirement, before then he was a poor outside shooter. Jordan also came back from his retirement with a great post up game, something LeBron doesn't have...yet. But like others have said this won't be decided for another 10 years, or whenever LeBron's career is over.

Ya, because I said the number of rings you win is the only factor that matters.

Apples and oranges. You can ride a single player to a ring much more so in basketball than you can in baseball.

There are 9 players in baseball playing at a time and pitching is huge. A lot different than a sport where only 5 guys are playing at a time. It's not even comparable.

And I don't like the Yankees but Jeter is very close to being one of the best SS of all time.

He certainly has the physical tools to as good or better than Jordan. He's actually faster and definitely more powerful than Jordan, but such speculation is premature at this point unless/until LBJ wins 5-6 championships.

I agree. I would like to see someone name 3 guys who have done what he's done for as long as he's done it.
