    3-4 Day Iowa getaway

Early July. Decided to leave the kids at Grandma's and take my 7.5 months pregnant wife on a 3-4 day Iowa getaway. We live in Ankeny so have done a lot of the DSM stuff. Friends have a house in Galena so we get to Dubuque about twice a year. Need some other suggestions of some things to do in our great state.

July is 1.5 months away, so your wife should be about 9 months at that point. I gotta be honest, you might want to check with her and make sure she's going to be up for travelling...

Brass Lantern in Greenfield is a nice, quiet bed and breakfast.

Okoboji would be a good stop. Outside of that, far Northeast Iowa like Broodwich described.

Everything else... well, I wouldn't go visit just for the hell of it.

    The Brass Lantern In Brief

It would be nice and relaxing even if you didn't go anywhere. They stock movies that mention Iowa or were filmed in Iowa too. Great breakfasts too!

Field of Dreams in Dyersville. Do they still have the Ertl factory there?

If you're in the area, you could go to the Amanas. Not sure what kind of touristy things there are to do there, though. I worked at the refrigerator plant there (when it was still Maytag) so we would usually eat at the various restaurants there.

I agree with Okoboji. But if you were going to Dubuque, I think that'd be kind of pointless to turn around and drive all the way back there.

I'd spend every minute of it at "The River"! The N.E. corner of the State is something to behold. The Lansing area is some of the most beautiful country I've every seen. Check it out!

I think both of the Dyersville attractiosn are gone. I think the Ertl museum may still be there but the factory is closed. And the Field of Dreams folded up a while ago.

I don't think that is correct...I believe Field of Dreams remains open.

Their website claims they are still open. FWIW.

    EDIT:
Also found the Ertl museum. Could knock both of these things out in a day (which is what I did back in the day).
