    Pulled Pork Rub

    I lost my reciepe from last year, I want a good rub and sauce because we have some friends from texas coming over on sunday. I want this to turn out well. A&M friends in case you were wondering...I don't hold that against them too much, but it does **** them off when I yell hook em horns....

    I have a modified carnitas rub that I use. It's a little different, but I really like it.

    It's
    2 parts salt
    4 parts garlic powder
    4 parts cumin
    2 parts oregano
    2 parts coriander
    2 parts cayenne pepper
    1 part cinnamon

    The cinnamon is a little weird at first, and can be eliminated entirely if desired.

    I won't give you my rubs recipe, but I'll let you know what's in it........

    Light Brown Sugar
    White Cain Sugar
    Onion Powder
    Garlic Powder
    Black Pepper
    Salt
    Chili Powder
    Cumin
    Mustard Powder
    Paprika
    Crushed Red Pepper
    Cayenne Pepper

    For a quick store bought rub, try Bad Byron's Butt Rub. It's usually available at Ace and True Value Hardware stores. Great rub! I use it all the time on my butts and then place a brown sugar "cap" on the fat side and smoke it for about 12-13 hours. I spray apple juice concentrate on the butts about every 20 minutes during the last 90 minutes of cooking.

    Ding ding ding we have a winner, free porkbutt dinner. Use these ingredients. If your rub tastes really good after you mix it together, it won't be that good of a rub. IMHO

    I think I'm going to try something else next time too, I have heard of people basting their pork shoulder during smoking with either apple juice/cider or pinapple juice. Baste it once an hour, apparently adds a little extra flavor to it.

    This is a good rub you can buy. I use it when I don't have time to make my own.

    So we went to the closest True Value hardware store in search of Bad Byrons Butt rub. After reading some of the responses to the post with that product in it I was a little leary of even going shopping for it, but alas my wife and I left the house with a smirk on our faces. We arrive at said hardware store in a small town a few miles from our house and immediately were even more on edge. This store looked on the inside like it hadn't been organized sinse about 1978. I asked where the Bar B Que supplies were and was told,"That isle over there, cant guarantee we have what you are looking for"....Let me tell you this...If you need vintage Webber grill parts I can direct you where to go....They didn't have the butt rub in plain view, and I sure as hell was not going to ask for it. So we left the store and went to a butcher shop and just got some of theirs. The butt turned out fine...I have a great sauce recipee if anyone would like it....spicy tangy and very good. Like nothing else out there and gets compliments every time i serve it......Again Thanks CF you never dissapoint....

    I use a spray bottle with apple juice and spray it about every half an hour.....yummy
