    Big 12 Starting QB's in 2011

I'm just starting to research for a column on Big 12 quarterbacks heading into 2011. I compiled this very unofficial list of projected starters for each team. Go ahead and chew on this for a while. I'll have that column done sometime early next week.

Iowa State: Jerome Tiller or Steele Jantz (both juniors)
    Oklahoma: Landry Jones, Jr.
    Oklahoma State: Brandon Weeden, Sr.
    Texas: Garrett Gilbert, Jr.
    Baylor: Robert Griffin, Jr.
Kansas State: Collin Klein (Jr.), Justin Tuggle (Jr.) or Samuel Lamur (Sr.)
    Kansas: Jordan Webb, So.
    Missouri: James Franklin, RS Fr.
Texas Tech: Seth Doege (Jr.) or RS Fr. Jacob Karam
    Texas A&M: Ryan Tannehill, Sr.

I thought James Frankiln played enough last year to lose that season of eligibility?

3 of the 6 are going to be real strong. Griffin, Jones, and Weeden all scare me a little. The remainder of the North on the other hand doesn't look to intimidating.

I would put Tannehill in that group too

I wouldn't. The guy couldn't throw the ball downfield enough to keep D's honest last year. He is not Griffin, who could hurl the ball when he had too. He will have good receivers which will help, but I would still be less worried about him than the three I listed.

This is true. Franklin will be a true sophmore.

And yet he was good enough to unseat the starter, who torched us consistently.

...and after Tannehill took over, A&M went on a run and nearly won the South.

Running is the apt word here.

Are we going to discredit a QB because he's more of a running threat?

Seth Doege is going to be the Tech starter. If Gilbert is Texas's starter they will be bad, again.

This thread should be titled Season Opening Big 12 Starting QB's. I believe at some point this year Barnett and Richardson will be our 1 and 2. Especially if we are projected at 3-4 wins. IMO, we can't waste our young talent for 3 or 4 wins. McCoy will unseat Gilbert at Texas. Jacob Karam will unseat Seth Dodge at Texas Tech. Tuggle will be the guy at KState.

Nothing in this post is correct.

Richardson? No. They will not waist his redshirt when their is already three guys ahead of him. Gilbert will have a breakout year and start proving to people why he was a top ranked QB recruit. Actually, everything you said is false.
