Re: Former Ohio State receiver talks

It is amazing that Ohio State has not suffered major penalties handed down by the NCAA...5 kids and a coach punished?! USC gets drilled and their was no evidence of coaches having knowledge...but the OSU...apparently the NCAA doesn't think it is a big deal.

How about a "lack of institutional control" charge?

They're in so much **** right now, as a Michigan fan, I don't even think it's funny anymore. The guy who broke the Minnesota scandal story a few years ago has also been poking around in Columbus. This won't end well for them.

The investigations are still going on. They won't do anything until that wraps up.

They won't get institutional control penalties like SMU either. For one-I don't know if the NCAA has it in them to do that to a school again and for another, SMU was a multiple time offender. Now, if they get penalized and do it again, maybe, but not for whatever they find this year.

I find it very hard to believe that an institution with the reputation that "The" Ohio State University has would cheat like this. They are too classy for that.

I think this rule is stupid. Players should be able to sell their rings if they want to.

They can, when they are no longer a NCAA athlete. If they don't want to abide by those rules, then just don't give them any more rings.

While it's kind of silly, it's also something that would be so easy for a program to exploit with boosters paying exorbitant sums for these rings. You'd have a tacitly legal way of paying players at these schools.

The problem that the OSU should run into is that they are still on probation for the basketball issues. If this is deemed major then it could get really ugly for one of the Big 10's cash cows.

With all of this piling up, I wouldn't look for the death penalty, but something akin to what SMU got before they got the death penalty.

If more stuff is uncovered after that penalty, then the death penalty is a viable discussion, but something that the NCAA is still pretty frightened to pull the trigger on.

Yeah, I agree but then how many rings would be issued. That would be such an easy laundering process. Give out commemorative rings for pretty much everything and then sell them to the Boosters. It's a slippery slope.

Re: Former Ohio State receiver talks

Regardless of the school I think anytime a former athlete speaks like this you just want to smack them upside the head. Why come clean now? You're only hurting your ala mater even more when you say stuff like this it only hurts the university more. You got away with it while you were in school, leave it at that and keep your mouth shut because what good is it doing now?

This type of stuff goes on all over the place, Ohio State got caught and they'll suffer the consequences in some manner I'm sure. I wouldn't be shocked if some of our former athletes did some things that would be considered violations too and you'd hope that if they did you'll never hear about them. If you are loyal to your university you would say anything that could potential damage it's reputation or even have potential sanction implications.

The title of this thread has kind of a "dog bites man" vibe to it.

Now if it was titled, "Former Ohio State Receiver Reads," now you've got something

"Me not winning isn't important. You do!"
