    Candidates for Big East Expansion

Now Army and Navy might be on the long list of possibilities

Army, Navy might hold key to Big East football expansion - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

Sounds like the Big East is a mess though in terms of direction...especially with the football/basketball split. They don't know if they want to stay at 9, or go to 10 or 12. Sounds like they'll know a year from now though with their new TV contract due, which will still be in last place in per team revenue.

Sounds like options are now Army, Navy, Villanova, UCF, ECU, SMU, Houston, BYU, Memphis, or Boise St. What a mess.

Boise St. and BYU? That makes no sense at all. UCF and Houston/SMU would seem to be the choices that make the most sense, although Army and especially Navy would be intriguing.

From what people have said, the Big East contacted BYU about a football only membership, and it sounds like they're not interested. Reports are that they'll make at least $8-12 mil/yr tv revenue as a football independent to start off and they're not all that into the Big East.

Some people seem to be floating Boise St. out there as an option, but I don't think they'll really get considered. I haven't heard them mentioned other than just an idea on some people's part. If they did, it'd be a football only membership also.

Re: Candidates for Big East Expansion

Boise State and BYU would define the term remote outpost. No way that happens. BYU didn't go independent just to jump into a conference...they'll try it out for a few years and see how it goes. If the Big 12 or Pac12 come a calling, they'll listen.

Central Florida and Houston both make sense. That would give a second school in both Florida and Texas. For the 12th member look at SMU/East Carolina/Memphis/Navy. You have 12 and you can go divisions and championship game

It surprised me to see ECU on the list, but I didn't realize their attendance has first in C-USA or that the Carolina tv market was that big.

Big East should go with UCF and Houston. Maybe add ECU as the 12th, theyd bridge the gap between Florida and the other big east (aside from the texas teams) a bit.

I think the Big East should snag Hawaii and that team from Mexico that Drake beat in the Kilimanjaro Bowl.

I think they should add Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri, and Memphis.

Re: Candidates for Big East Expansion

It is interesting to look at the teams they are considering (and the fact that they are looking to expand). It is hard for me to understand why anyone thought we would be regulated to the Mountain West...Big East would have offered in a second. Not to mention the Big East is closer and would make much more sense over the MWC. Always did.

    Edit: post 1500!!

The basketball and football schools need to break off. The basketball schools are only holding the Big East back.

Army, Navy, and ECU is who I'd add, but that's just me.

    FIFY

Army isn't competitive enough to be in a BCS league. Navy is. Plus, you can't leave the sleeping giant that is UCF (honestly they have more upside than USF, who has a ton) on the table.
