    Ames Qdoba

I just found out that the Qdoba in Ames has closed. All the signage has been taken down. Does anyone know why?

    I loved that place!

Probably because Flying Burrito is the best burrito place EVER! (It will always be 'Flying' to me)

I bet it has less to do with Flying/Fighting Burrito, and more to do with the Panchero's that's a block away from the Qdoba.

    Panchero's >>>>>> Qdoba + Chipotle + Fighting Burrito

Seemed like a really odd location. Too far to be convenient for the University lunch crowd and right next to another burrito chain. I was always puzzled as to why they decided that would be a good spot.

I agree. Small and too little parking. Plus there are 1,000 places to eat mexi in Ames. Still hoping the Chipotle rumor is true though.

Panchero's has better tortillas, and that's nothing to sneeze at, but that's about all they've got. Qdoba's strength is their variety. More types of burritos. More sauces. Great soup.

Probably also what lead to them closing, assuming that comes with higher overhead.

Wow, I was just there on Saturday. It never drew much of a crowd at least when I was there.

    Re: Ames Qdoba

Side note: I noticed that Ames Rental near Qdoba location appears vacant and there's a builder's sign out front. There seems to be a real push getting the old buildings/businesses off Duff to open up space for new development.

    There was one?

    Re: Ames Qdoba

Yeah, Ames Rental had a sale last weekend to get rid of all their equipment. That lot, plus the O'Malley McGee's lot and the warhouse behind it (beside the Walmart parking lot) is for sale.

That's too bad about Qdoba. I saw a 'for lease' sign there and wondered what was up since all three spots seemed full. I heard Chipotle is going in where the Fox and that old cell phone store used to be.

City council is hearing (tonight) to combine the five plots of land where the old bowling alley was into one lot. Should be interesting...I can't imagine that Texas Roadhouse needs that whole thing. Also, the salvage yard by Borders is being rezoned. Where the cars are back behind will be agricultural, but the the front part by Duff is going to be commercial, so I'd expect something to go in there.

    Re: Ames Qdoba

Since we're talking about other development, does anyone know what is going up in the old Whiskey River spot on Main St? THey've been working on that for a couple months at least but it is all boarded up so can't see inside.
