    Travel Luggage

We need to start looking for new luggage. What is the best deal? What do you look for besides the obvious 62in (w+h+L) requirement for the airlines?

Is it better to go to Target or something name brand?

    get middle-of-the-road quality from Kohl's

Get a 20-30% off coupon in addition to their 50% off on luggage-- is pretty sweet.

If Erik is going to use it, you may want to make sure it has separate storage for his crayons. Those things make a mess when they melt.

Hmmm, your son's old enough to be done with crayons. There are only so many ways for you to know this....

    Re: Travel Luggage

I would say for the average person luggage is luggage is luggage, just buy something middle of the road, and don't get black. I have no idea what brands are good, I couldn't tell you what brand our luggage is if I tried, but it's got a zipper and a handle and that's pretty much all it needs for me.

I've never had to pack crayons, but a seprate spot for the jerk sauce would be good

If this were the Cave, there'd be a Ron Paul campaign joke here

    Re: Travel Luggage

This is probably going to be long winded but here it goes.

My wife and I travel a lot compared to most people. In the past we've constantly over packed and usually paid the price. About 6 months ago we were planning a trip to Italy and decided to take the plunge and just each take 1 carry one. I did some research and found a couple of web sites that are dedicated to people taking a minimal amount on trips like this site Packing Clothes :: One Bag.

We then bought a few packing cubes and some of those boards that you wrap shirts in. Then I bought this backpack. I was able to fit a netbook, 10 days of clothes, etc all in this one bag. I also had my SLR camera bag, which the airlines allow.

I can tell you that it was well worth it to not have to worry about your bags getting lost and wheeling your luggage through Italy. My wife thinks we looked like dorks because we're not exactly teenagers but in the end I could care less.

    I'd recommend checking them out.

I have a Marlboro duffel bag I got from Marlboro miles when I used to smoke 15 years ago. Still works great.

Not bad. How long are your trips?

I'm only asking because ours tend to be a couple of weeks, and a huge pile of books go with me.

    10 days in Europe.
As far as books, wife took 2 rick steve's physical books and her Kindle. Also took a GPS, Mp3 player, electrical converter, netbook, and a few other things. I just wore the same shoes over and over but the wife had to take an extra pair.

We had to pack smart and I only took 3 pair of jeans but I did take 10 shirts, I didn't feel like I was really missing anything but I can tell you that the think was packed FULL.

Thanks! That adds some real context for me. This deserves a deeper look.
