    2012 MBB Recruiting

So where does everyone think they go from here after getting Niang? It seems like Okoro is the next priority. My question is, are they basically down to Okoro vs Abrahamson? Or would they take them both? Assuming there are three scholarhsips to give out (at this point at least), does it make sense to bring in both of those guys? Or should one scholarship be reserved for more of a combo guard like Lee or even Gessell or Staten?

    Re: 2012 MBB Recruiting

If Okoro is a wing, I think they might add another post. Of our remaining targets, if I had to pick one it would be Phillip Nolan, as he has the length to be a center, and the same outside skills as a Vanderbekken. At this point I am writing off Anthony Bennet. The guy skyrocketed into 5 star territory, and will get some serious attention. He looks a lot like Terrence Jones at this point in his HS career. If we went big, I would also like a guy like Cinmeon Bowers from Wisconsin. Don't know how hard we are recruiting him.

If Okoro ends up a SG, I think the wing becomes more important. At that point I would like to see Elgin Cook come back to ISU.

Pretty sure that Okoro is the top priority at this point.

Frak - Very confident that Iowa State is no longer recruiting Gessell.

Thats unfortunate. I thought he could be very good for us. Who dumped who I wonder? And what ever happened to Wesley Staten? Did his ISU offer get pulled?

Seems to me that they want to get commits from Okoro and Abrahamson and then if something opens up, go looking for either the PG or the C.

Let Iowa have Gessell, I just get the feeling he is more a of a midmajor prospect. If they got Phillip Nolan that would be pretty huge. I would also take Ray Lee, Javontae Hawkins, Kenny Gaines, Elgin Cook and Abrahamson.

I tend to agree with this. For the combined classes of 2011 and 2012, you would then have the following:

    C - Gibson
    PF - Niang
    WF - Abrahamson
    WG - Okoro
    PG - Sledge

If Okoro commits here soon, they may elect to pursue a combo guard like Ray Lee instead of Abrahamson.

I havent seen Gessell play so Im sure you have a better feeling on him than I do, but it seems like everyone on here thinks that he is a mid-major player. If thats the case, then why is he a top 150 player?

what makes it seem like that to you? there are plenty of 2012 offers out there besides abrahamson.

Good question. I am not sure. I think what I really meant is that he fits a more slow style of play like Nebraska, Creighton, UNI, Wisconsin etc. So he can definitely play for high major teams it just depends on what style of play they have. But I could be dead wrong.

Someone mentioned here in another thread that after Babb and McGee graduate we are going to be hurting for 3pt shooting. Not sure what kind of player Okoro is but whoever they get knowing the kinda of style that Fred wants to play, it'll be someone who can shoot.

Yes, but if Royce White does what we want him to do next year, he may not be around. Also, you have to consider program attrition, which is an issue at every school. Sign 4, it will work itself out.

Which is likely why Matt Thomas has the early offer.
