    Do you tip delivery drivers?

For restaurants I do, of course. But I was looking here

The Original Tipping Page - Tips | US | Deliveries

and it says you should tip $5-10 per person for deliveries of large items like furniture and appliances. Does anyone actually do this?

I'm having a washer/dryer delivered tomorrow and want to take care of them if it is actually the custom, but is it? Really?

Re: Do you tip delivery drivers?

I don't because usually they charge me a delivery fee.

I'm a generous tipper, but if I get the sense anyone expects me to tip, I become very stingy.

Re: Do you tip delivery drivers?

Honest question, where did tipping come from? Was it invented just so that restaurants/hotels could save some money but still have their employees make a decent wage? Or as a way to reward employees on a performance basis (harder you work, more tips you get)?

Re: Do you tip delivery drivers?

I don't tip if I'm charged for delivery. If I get free delivery, or the guys bring it into the house, I tip $5 each

Yes. $5 per person if they are careful, quick, and don't leave a mess. Delivery fee or not.

I tip for everything, including haircuts.

Re: Do you tip delivery drivers?

I prefer tiping movers expecially before moving items in. They seem friendlier and take more care of your walls/boxes/items than when not tipping them up front. (it also helps if you pull the pre-tip out of a stack of cash they see and then at the end tip again if they did a good job out of the same stash)

Generally delivery fees don't go to a person. They go to the company to cover gas and vehicle costs so yes I always tip the delivery person.

I have never tipped a delivery guy for furniture or anything like that. Thought never even crossed my mind.

Either charge a delivery fee or dont. Dont say its this price and then expect more on top of it. If a company charges less than it should be in hopes people will give a tip, that is on the company.

There are multiple stories and not much official. One origin is that they used to tip before the service To Insure Promptness.

Now adays we just tip for any service whether it was especially good or not.

Personally, I'm with Mr Pink. I tip, but not for everything and rarely a large amount.

One thing I DON'T tip for is to go orders, which are the bulk of the restaurant food I eat. Sorry.
