    aTm vs. UT..

My daughter is wrapping up her sophomore year of HS. She is dead set on going to college in Texas and leaning toward UT just because of name recognition. That would be the equivalent of her going to eiU for me. I need some legit ammo from some of you aggies out there. I would rather her go to A&M just because I respect the school more. She's not gonna be a military girl or an engineer, just wants to be a teacher. I gotta keep her out of Austin though & I have about a year to start dropping info. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Re: aTm vs. UT..

If it's just for teaching it really won't matter much at all.
At least when we hire teachers we very rarely care what school they went to. We usually look more at how well they did during their student teaching as well as sub work.
Plus with Texas and alternative certification being so popular she will be for the most part set above those in the ACPs.

I wish her luck either way she goes - the state budget is not good this year and many first year teachers got the boot. Hopefully that will all be better by the time she gets towards the end of her studies.

Make sure her GPA stays below 3.5 or so and likely she won't make it as an out of stater.

It was a joke A&M only refers to Texas as tu. Sorry you didn't catch that I was joking.

Okay back on topic. Sorry for the derailing.

    Re: aTm vs. UT..

Well the first thing you should do is start referring to it as t.u. A&M has a great student teaching program, several of my friends had an easy time getting placed at the schools they wanted.

Is she dead set on attending a big school? Otherwise Sam Houston is a traditional teaching school so I would imagine its program is better then A&M and t.u.

One really annoying thing about t.u fans
Just like eiu many flag waving t-sips didn't even attend the university.

While most cyclones and aggies attended the school.

If your going to plan your future by what school you go to, why should you give a **** about the fans?

    Re: aTm vs. UT..

Out of state tuition for an education degree? That's ridiculous unless you are rich. It's not like teachers have a tough time finding a job. If you send your daughter to TX, she's likely going to meet a TX boy and end up living down there, so I'd consider that. My arguement would be either she goes to UNI or ISU and ends up with $30k of debt or UT and ends up with $100k+...and your kid is likely to be living 700+ miles away from you for the rest of your life.

There are many opportunities for in-state tuition at TAMU for good out of state students.
    I sent you a PM.

My brother went to TAMU so ive had the chance to spend a little time in college station. TAMU is a very nice campus and school (almost reminds me of ISU... but with a lot more money) but damn is the place a bit... cultish.

UT definitely isnt a bad place either though, and there are also other good schools in state other than those big 2. North Texas, Houston, Rice, Texas State (in San Marcos), etc.
