What does Chris Babb bring to the table?

What exactly does this guy bring to the table? Is he strictly a one-dimensional 3 pt. shooter from the outside? I have watched some clips and he looks like a great outside threat. Can he put it on the deck? Can he post up? Is he a good rebounding guard? I really haven't had a chance to watch him play. Is there anyone around the program that can give me mre information about him?

Hoiberg said he wouldn't be surprised if Babb played some 4 for us next year, so he's probably pretty good at posting up.

Re: What does Chris Babb bring to the table?

Don't be one bit surprised if Babb leads our team in 3pt% this year. He can flat stroke it from outside and teams are going to have serious issues locking down Christopherson, Babb and Allen. Defensively, he moves well and can guard just about any wing player, which will be a tremendous asset for us. He's never really had to play inside so that's a big question. I think this talk about him playing the 4-spot is a little blown out of proportion. Can he spell someone like Booker or White for a couple minutes and give us some inside depth? Probably, but we definitely don't want to lean too heavily on Babb playing down low, because that's going to take away from his outside game. I fully expect him to be double-digit scorer for us.

I suggest before anyone gets excited about this thread to go back and read some of the OP's past posts.

Re: What does Chris Babb bring to the table?

Don't be surprised if Babb is our #2 or 3 scorer this year. I agree he won't see a lot of time at the 4, but for a guard he is built well and will be able to hold his own at the 3.

With Allen, McGee, Scotty and Babb, we'll almost always have 2 guys on the court that can hit from anywhere if they're hot, and sometimes 3 at the same time.

If we can get some rebounds and defend the paint, we'll be pretty damn tough to beat, IMO.

If he doesn't perform, Hoiberg is totaly going to get fired since he's already on the hot seat.

Re: What does Chris Babb bring to the table?

If he plays the 4, my guess is it will be because we're playing 4 out, 1 in, not because Babb is posting up.

The only time Babb would be posting up is if the matchup allows it. For example, if we put a PG, Babb, Ejim, Booker and Royce and Babb has a 6 foot guard on him, its likely that we'd try to isolate Babb in the post.

Judging by his twitter account, I'm guessing he may shoot a few 3's...enter creeper

If Babb plays any power forward, it will be as a perimeter 4. He'd guard the opposing 4 (most likely in the post), but would spend his time on the perimeter offensively.

So, if I'm thinking REALLY optimistically about next year, we have an Orlando Magic type team taking the floor next year w/ White playing the role of Dwight Howard and everyone else on the floor being able to shoot 3's once he's doubled?? That sounds like fun.

Re: What does Chris Babb bring to the table?

I've watched him play rec ball and he's a really good shooter. He and Chris Allen were guarding each other, and each can handle the ball, shoot the three, and throw it down! He's also mentioned on twitter a while ago that he's 6'6" and about 220 (I think that's what he said weight wise) so he's got great size for a 3. I agree that he won't be spending a lot of time at 4, but Fred was just talking about that as a small athletic line-up. I expect big things from him in the next two years!!

Babb will have to quit if he does not make a 3 in the first .5 seconds of the game.
