Bin Laden Used a "SneakerNet" to Send E-mails

A very interesting article on how Bin Laden sent emails from his non-internet connected hide out.Per the article, he used good ol' sneakernet to get his messages out. His archives are also providing a huge amount of intel about Al-Qaeda. Great find for the CIA.

I like to hear about all the "swagg" intel we are getting from the raid but I wonder if it's prudent to make it public. Like in cards if you know a player's "tell" you don't tell him about it.

On a serious note, I somewhat agree. But, I'm sure they (CIA) figure that Al-Qaeda knows what intel got seized. So, it really can't hurt telling the public that they just found a stash of vital info on those rat bastards.

Al-Qaeda knows in general what was seized, but I highly doubt they know in detail what info is contained in those e-mails which gives the good guys a serious advantage for now.

Since they aren't really talking about the details of what was found, I'm guessing that this is just for public relations to keep the victory in the public eye. I don't mind being reminded

Re: Bin Laden Used a "SneakerNet" to Send E-mails

Just goes to show that the Patriot Act, the 10 BILLION dollars the US Government has spent spying on every American, revoking our rights, and coercing every ISP, email provider, and internet based business to cooperate on spying on internet users everywhere ... was all worthwhile. Do I need a sarcasm pirate?

Oh, I do agree with the others that now that they have recovered a treasure trove of information there is no need to release any details until every lead has been pursued. Oh, they already have released too many details. I forgot, the government is smarter than the average person and manages their money better too. Hmmm, if they release details, cause the remaining terrorists to hide even further, then they can use this as a justification to spent another 10 BILLION dollars we can't afford and steal our rights even further. Pirate?

I'm glad they caught UBL. I'm not glad that they wasted our money and stole our rights to do it. Can we eliminate the TSA now?

Maybe it is a bluff to try to get everyone moving frantically whether they have the goods or not.

For one thing, the gov't is not releasing details saying they recovered gigabytes of bin-Laden's e-mails, just that they did, and I'm sure the DoD/CIA is trying to sweat Al Qaeda into panicking and making a blunder or two that would help greatly. As for privacy in the public World Wide Web, don't send anything you don't want used against you, just like if you were talking to someone in a public venue, someone will always be eavesdropping. If you want private communications, meet up privately face to face. Can't expect privacy over the land line phone either, and that's where the Patriot Act goes too far. Considering the amount of porno Skype calls, obviously the gov't isn't monitoring everything.

Porno Skype calls? Eww, horrible mental image of Roy and Harrison Barnes right now.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
