Chris, how do you see the two remaining scholarships playing out?

What is your take? We obviously have one more open scholarship than anticipated. I think with Godfrey in the mix, the staff would have banked one if they weren't able to get someone that could help us some next year. With two open and the loss of much needed depth in the paint, I can't help but think that Fred won't turn over every rock in the world to try to find an available post player.

How do you see us sitting with Gibson and what are our chances that we get 1 or 2 of these spots filled?

I completely agree with you, we're in dire need of another big man down low. even someone who can throw 5-10 decent minutes/game. Does anyone know of some good viable options left though? seems a little late to be finding much quality.
Hopefully we can get our hands on Gibson

Looking at size alone, I worry that Gibson would not be an immediate contributor. In Chris's Monday Musings, he listed Gibson at 6'7 200 lbs. Unless he gets on a great weight plan this summer, there's no way he could guard in the post with that frame. His Rivals page lists him at 6'8 240, however that's what they had Godfrey at last year and he came in 6'6 220ish.

It seems Percy would give us a body that is similar to Godfrey if not a little bigger. I'll take that. He will certainly be more at home in the paint than Ejim or Babb, which is currently the only post players outside of White, Booker and Railey.

If he is indeed 6'7 200, he is much smaller than Godfrey as far as frame goes. Godfrey was undersized but made up for it with his motor. Regardless if we pick up anyone else this spring, I think we'll see more of Babb against smaller teams and more of Booker against bigger teams. I have a bad feeling that Royce will be prone to foul trouble at least the first half of the year, which could make our lineups very interesting.

I would say that Railey has become much more important since the Godfrey departure. Railey will need to play a min of 10 min/game and probably more like 15 unless we land another post that can play next year.

Rivals is always better when it comes to recruit info than ESPN and they list him as 6'8 240, so I don't think people should be concerned about his ability to play in the post. Even ESPN who lists him at 200 calls him a big body with good strength. Ill take him.

At this point, we don't know how long he'll be out because of suspension. In a perfect world, he'll make tremendous strides this off-season and only have to sit out the early portion of non-conference.

The video I saw of Gibson....it looked like he had a B12 ready body on him IMO.

Only if it is a drug-related offense which Godfrey's was.

Railey may miss a game or two with his latest disorderly conduct charge but I doubt any more than that.

Regarding the remaining scholarships, I will be shocked if both get filled. For the one that may get filled, Gibson appears to be the only viable candidate although Maryland has released Martin Bruenig, a 6-9 German kid, from his LOI. Not sure if ISU would be able to get involved with him at this point.

Dayton was supposedly still in play for Gibson but they have now received a commitment from 2011 6-9 post player Alex Gavrilovic so that may or may not take them out of the running for Gibson.

McD counted on idiots to play big minutes, now he's in Omaha.

This is what Fred has to work with. Booker and White will likely play the bulk of minutes, but they will need backups. Obviously Ejim and Babb can both spend some time at the 4, but Railey will have to be counted on for some time at the 5.

That is unless we land another post player that is better than Railey in the next couple months.

At some point down the road (4-5 yrs) we are still relying on Railey caliber players for big minutes, Fred will likely be shown the door as well.
