    Fans

First off, kudos to the students. That was awesome to see all of those sections jam packed!

Secondly, we had some a-hole "fans" behind us that I can't for the life of me figure why they bought tickets. This was a couple in their fortys that appeared to have had too much to drink. They spent the whole night yelling that the fans weren't cheering and standing (which was not correct). Ironically, they never supported their team once that I recall. Their only "cheering" was yelling "c'mon block somebody once", or "c'mon tackle somebody", "hello, throw it in the end zone", "this is so f-ing stupid I can't believe we are going to lose to Kent State." When we were down 9 in the 4th and tried the field goal, they were yelling how stupid the fg attempt was because "this doesn't do any f-ing good." People that are this boisterous and don't even know what they are talking about really **** me off. Then, as they were gathering their things to leave after the missed fg, they were asking people around them if they were coming to the UNI game. They made it known that they were not. I would rather we would have sold only 30,000 season tickets than to have these idiots there.

As for the game, I was very pleased with Bass. Also, the OL was a bright spot, outside of a couple of costly penalties, with 4 new starters. Meyer wasn't sacked once that I recall and really was never pressured. I thought the defense played well in the 1st half except for the 1 drive ksu scored on. The defense wasn't good in the 2nd half. We knew it was going to be a struggle this year and last night confirmed it. This was a 4-8 team last year that basically had to learn a whole new system in 30 days. I believe they will get better each week and next year we can get back to worrying about the number of wins, but this year we just need to focus on improvement, not W-L.

    GO CYCLONES!!!

    Re: Fans

the only complaint i had about the fans was that people were coming into the game way after the game started and some people who sat next to me didnt even show up to the game till after halftime because they were tailgating. i mean come on why pay 40 bucks and not even watch half of it. and people kept coming in and standing infront of me and i could see the game for alot of parts of the first half because they wouldnt get in their seats before the game started.

Some people were coming into the game late because they just got there. Another down side of Thrusday games.

You'll always have the morons (usually drunk) whenever you have that many people together at once. however it sucks when they always seem to be sitting near you.

    Re: Fans

They are supposed to have some new hotline to call about unruley fans in your section, though I don't know that those people would quite qualify for needing to be removed by security (In their eyes anyways)

It WAS nice to see the student section packed, and before the game started I was coming back from getting water, and everyone had their towels up and spinning. The section may have only been half full at that point, but it was pretty cool.

I was also pleased to see people across from the student section standing up and spinning their Twister (NOT tornado...) towels and cheering on 3rd downs and the like.

That said, I'm still ****ing ****** that our team was booed off the field at half time

Do you think the team was being booed?
I see it as the play call of taking a knee with 2 seconds left at mid field.
Doesn't make it right, just how I see it.
I will admit I wanted a hell mary to the endzone.

Drove three hours to game and then with all the new fans with season tickets, it took an hour to get parked.

When at the 50, toss it to the endzone.

If Bret cannot heave it, let Austin or Bates do it.

NEVER take a KNEE on your homefield.

This tells the fans a lot about team confidence.

Kudos for being disgusted at halftime and end of game. So were the fans.

    Re: Fans

I still remember what our 7th grade coach said when we asked him why he did try a Hail Mary to end the half. He said that on runs 2 bad things can happen, a fumble or tackled for loss. On a pass you can get sacked, fumble or get intercepted. I don't care to end the half on an interception returned for a touchdown.

I couldn't agree more. Why not throw a ball to the endzone?

At that point in the game, momentum for us was non-existent. A fumble, sack, or interception--even if it didn't result in a score for the opponent--would have been disastrous for confidence going into the locker room.

Of course, hearing boos from your own fans as you go into the locker room doesn't do much for your confidence either.

i will say it was pretty sweet seeing the towels going in the student section

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I don't want to turn this into yet another religion thread but I'd rather they attempted a Hail Mary and not a HELL Mary. I mean Chad, what are you a Satanic Cult member?

The only negative thing I yelled all night was that Sweet Caroline should NEVER be played at a football game. God I hate that crowd killer.

    Re: Fans

You are down 7-9 at halftime against a team you are favored to beat at home. You have the ball left with a few seconds at midfield. Taking a knee and being satisfied with being down just doesn't seem to me like our team and coaching staff had much urgency - kind of like the way it was for large periods of the game.

Throw it deep. If you get sacked, oh well you lost yards just like taking a knee. If you get intercepted, the chances of it being returned all the way are very small because most of your players still stand between the returner and the end-zone. If it's incomplete, oh well - at least you tried. If you catch it though.... it's a HUGE momentum swing and your fans and team are PUMPED all of halftime and to start the next half.

I wanted to see more urgency and hustle throughout the entire game yesterday and for the most part I was disappointed. I want to see this change.
