    Shaggy has to go...

I'm sure Shaggy is a great guy, and he's been an accurage kicker, but does anyone here have confidence that when the game is on the line he will deliver? Do we have anyone on the roster who can step in and do the job? I need some help here!

right now I don't believe we have anyone who would be an improvement at the kicking position....One thing I want to see Chizik do in recruiting that past coaches wouldn't do: Use a scholarship on a kicker!

How about we not have the game on the line where we need a kicker to save us. We could always use an improvement in all areas, but I would be happy being far enough ahead and not rely on a kicker for the win. They have a tough job. The others players can play all game and get in a ryhthm, but kickers have very few shots.

We get, what, 85 scholarships? Is it too much to ask to use ONE of those on a kicker?

Um, that first kick was in the first half, score was 0-0. Non-pressure, non last minute....

well we are not gonna blow every team outta the water, we need to be able to win close games. And having a good, clutch, reliable kicker is what will make the difference in those types of games...the more likely thing will be that we are too far behind in more games where having a reliable kicker won't matter rather than blowing out teams so that it won't matter.

If shaggy is #1, the coaches think he has the best shot to make the kicks we need to win.

Mac used 2 schollys on kickers in the past few years, neither of them panned out. Greibahn (sp?) was one of them.

Right. He is by far our best option RIGHT NOW but how about we actually recruit a kicker instead of letting 5 or 6 walk-ons show up and see who can beat the others.

I do too but even good teams rely on their kickers.

Whatever happened to that guy from either Davenport or Bettendorf that was supposed to be "big" at ISU? I don't have a name to go along with this...

Griebahn was in an article last week as being one of the "walk-ons" who'd earned a scholarship this fall. Therefore, we have a "holder" and "kick-off specialist" on scholarship! I can't imagine that Culbertson's not on scholarship if Griebahn is....

And you're right; Griebahn was given a scholarship coming out of West Branch HS, and so was a kid from Bettendorf two years ago. Evidently they weren't "renewed" at some point.

In short, ISU does use scholarships on kickers; evidently just not the right kickers....

    Re: Shaggy has to go...

Did I miss something? Did we lose last night by a field goal?

How about we give out kicker a chance to kick a field goal of less than 40 yards. What was the last attempt, 47? Shaggy is an above average DI field goal kicker, we certainly have other things to worry about.
