Royals promote Eric Hosmer to KC

A little earlier than I expected but the kid was hitting .439 in Omaha with a .525 OBP. It looks like it's time to see if all of the hype surrounding the Royals minor league prospects amounts to results in the majors.

Figures, I go to several games a year as part of my job and the first game we were going to get to go was Monday. Guess I won't get to see him play.

I am excited about this! And I'm going to the A's/Royal's game Saturday. Talk about perfect timing.

giggity. Thought Moustakas would be first, but excited. Amazing bc he can become a super two earlier now, but the Royals are competing and the Central is very winnable this year.
This move was done because the starting rotation isn't very good and they need to score runs.
    but ya, giggity.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

I'm shocked they didn't wait another month. They Royals are not going to contend this season and they just upped his free agency by one year. With 17,000 running through the turnstiles each night I'm not sure how they can pay their roster down the road.

    Coming from a Pirates fan....

I think the Royals will surprise some people this year. They have one of the top offenses in the AL and adding Hosmer should improve their offense even more.

Buster Olney said he talked to some major league scouts about Hosmer and they compared him to "Joey Votto with an impact of Jason Heyward in 2010".

Calling him up right now has no effect on his free agency. He may qualify as a Super Two now which means he will have the opportunity to go through arbitration 4 times instead of 3. The only way the Royals could have pushed back free agency would have been by keeping him in AAA the entire season which really wasn't going to happen anyway.

Why does it matter what team I cheer for? By the way, the Royals are 4 1/2 games out of first and the Pirates are 2 1/2 games out of first.

Gotcha. MLB has some goofy free agent rules that I have a hard time keeping up with.

I think they'd have to have him in Omaha in April of next year as well if they want to delay his FA clock by a year. I would have liked to see Kila get a couple hundred more at-bats, but can't really blame the Royals for going with Hosmer. I'm sure the commisioner's office would not look too highly upon the Royals if they tried to game the service clock on every single one of their prospects.

I'm a Royals fan and I'm thankful that the Pirates are a major league team because it stops the Royals from being the worst team in the MLB every year.

BTW, the Pirates are 2.5 games back, but to a team that's leading the division with a 18-14 record. The Royals have a 17-14 record, trailing the Indians by 4.5 who are 21-9 (best record in the majors). So that "games back" argument is pointless.

Keep hanging your hat on those things. The Yankees and Rangers should just fold up shop since the Indians have the best record in the AL. Don't get so defensive.

Also, I've read that Super 2 might be disappearing in the next CBA so the risk it a bit lower from the perspective too.
