    Great article. Thanks

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

He has not been a great recruiter, and I know he has aspirations to be a head coach, so being involved in more of the day-to-day makes sense.

Why has the team not been good? Because it hasn't had the talent.

I can't believe I have to go through this again. He recruited Brackins and DG in the first year on the job, when excitement was in the program. Most of the guys afterwards flamed out.

Do you realize that in order to be a competitive program in the Big 12, you need to recruit 2 Top 150 guys every year? We have 7 teams in this conference that are routinely in the Top 25-30 in recruiting classes for basketball.

The high school recruiting to date has not been good.

This team has not been any good because the coaching has sucked. The 2009 team had more than enough talent to make the tournament or at least be on the bubble.

TJ not being able to single-handily "Calipari" ISU to success as an assistant coach does not mean he is not a good recruiter.

Re: Exclusive CF Discussion: With T.J. Otzelberger

    Guys that TJ brought in:

2007: Brackins, Garrett, Boozer... Overall a good recruiting year, 2 top 150 guys
2008: Buckley, Hamilton, Pomlee... Hamilton was decent, the other two were bad fits
2009: Colvin, Oliver.... Colvin had talent, bad fit. Oliver was a bust
2010: Ejim, McKnight, Phillips... Ejim was good, but that's only 1 guy.. So-so year
2011: Sledge... This is going to hopefully be a great pick.

Also, look at the recruiters homebase. He's a Wisconsin guy. He has not brought in a Wisconsin player that was offered by another BCS school.

I am sorry, but 2007 was a good year. The other years, just OK. When you are a recruiter at a BCS conference, you are supposed to bring in at least 3 star guys.

Show me how Iowa State has had a recruiting edge over anybody in the conference.

How about Mike Taylor? Gilstrap? How about Wesley Johnson? Ejim will be a good player. Godfrey looks good.

Hard to recruit to a place where talent wasn't being utiliized. Wins bring easier recruting.

    Diante Garrett disagrees with you.
