If you were to start up a classic rock station...

What would be your 10 "staple" artists?

    In no particular order:

Beatles ( & associated John, Paul, George, & Ringo solo material)
    Led Zeppelin
    Rolling Stones
    The Doors
    Elton John
    Aerosmith
Eric Clapton (& associated Cream, Derek & Dominoes, Blind Faith material)
    Steely Dan
    Jimi Hendrix
    Boston

Drop the Doors and Steely Dan. Add Skynyrd and AC/DC.
Not a big EJ fan, but I can't really argue it.

The Who? What about the Allman Brothers. You also need to take off Boston in my opinion.

Re: If you were to start up a classic rock station...

I think my Classic Rock station would be a little weirder than most others:

The Beatles (With a heavy dose of Paul and John's post breakup stuff)
    Led Zeppelin
Chicago (the stuff from before Terry Kath died, CTA through Chicago XI)
    David Bowie
    Queen
    The Who
    Billy Joel
    Pink Floyd
Cheap Trick (I have a weakness for this band)
    Blood, Sweat, and Tears

Can I just say that I don't mind any of those bands, but any dude who actually enjoys Hinder is not a man at all in my book. Just an absolutely terrible band and few things would bring me greater pleasure than to see their lead singer's vocal chords ripped from his throat.

...oh, and none of those bands are classic rock bands.

Re: If you were to start up a classic rock station...

Since nobody has broached the subject, KGGO and most classic rock stations play Crue, Poison, Skid Row and a host of other hair/glam/arena metal from the 80s, and KGGO will play Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP. Not to deviate from the original post, but do these bands qualify as classic rock, and if not, what is your cut-off?

    Beatles
    Led Zeppelin
    CCR
    The Who
    Jimi Hendrix
Pearl Jam (I have heard them several times on KGGO so I say they count)
    Boston (love me some Boston)
    Elton John
    Black Sabbath
    Nirvana

We posted at the same time it looks like. I included Pearl Jam and Nirvana on my list because like you said, I have heard both many times on KGGO. In the case of Nirvana if the lead singer is dead and the band has been defunct for 15+ years they should count in my opinion. I'm only in my mid-twenties, and Pearl Jam is my all time favorite band, so it's really weird hearing them on a classic rock station. Makes me feel old.

Not to be picky -- but I was excluding glam rock & grunge.

First 4 out (bracketology): CCR, The Who, The Animals, Chicago
