    Your 2011 Preliminary All-Iowa Team

I was just coming up with the All-Iowa team thus far, granted this does not take into account fall practice. But here is mine:

    Offense
    TE-Brad Herman
    LT-Kelechi Osemele
    LG-Adam Gettis
    C-James Ferentz
    RG-Hayworth Hicks
    RT-Riley Reiff

    QB-James Vandenberg
    RB-Shontrelle Johnson
    WR-Marvin McNutt
    WR-Darius Reynolds
    WR/RB-Marcus Coker/Keenan Davis

    Defense
    DE-Jacob Lattimer
    DT-Mike Daniels
    DT-Stephen Ruempolhamer
    DE-Broderick Binns
    LB-AJ Klein
LB-James Morris (this was tight as Matt Tau' fo''ou brings a ton of experience)
    LB-Jake Knott
    CB-Leonard Johnson
    CB-Shaun Prater
    S-Micah Hyde
    S-Ter'Ran Benton

    Kicker-Grant Mahoney
    Punter-Kirby Van Der Kamp
    Kick Return-Shontrelle Johnson
    Punt Return-Josh Lenz

Matt Tau'fo does not bring a ton of experience. James Morris as a true freshmen has played in more games.

Depends on the offense whether you take Johnson or Coker

I don't think Lattimer would start for Iowa.

According to UniGuy Lattimer will be first team Big 12 by the end of the year.

    Interesting.
By comparison to last years discussions, the defense was pretty much all Hawks. AROB was considered the best back in state, but Iowa had the depth. Could be considered a complete swap this fall with Coker vs the ISU backs.

Overall I like the originally posted list by UNI

I'll take Iowa's DE's over ISU's any day of the week. Lattimer has a motor but that's about it. He runs himself out of a LOT of plays. Heck, I'll take Iowa's DL over anything Iowa State has put together recently.

Overall, I'd say you're pretty close. I'd probably put Nielsen on that list instead of Klein, and Keenan Davis over Reynolds. Also, at this point in time I'd say your special teams are probably the most logical guys, but Hyde is supposedly being moved to punt return, so he could surprise some people.

No way, what has Davis ever done aside put us some decent numbers in spring scrimmage? Klein will likely be in the NFL. As a threesome I will take Knott, Klein, and Matt T. they just know each other way too well.

Can we play more than 10 guys on offense? I would add a 3rd WR or take Woody as the FB.

I think you are overestimating Matt T by quite a bit.

Re: Your 2011 Preliminary All-Iowa Team

The original list is pretty close. Shontrelle/Coker is a toss-up (what a 1-2 punch THAT would be), as they are completely different styles of back. I think Rump would be on the line, and I don't know who Iowa's DE will be opposite Binns, but he's probably a better all around guy than Lattimer (unless he has no experience). Matt T. is clearly behind James Morris @ this point.

    Reynolds > Kenan Davis.

Iowa kicker > Mahoney. Mahoney is a very, very poor kicker right now.

    This team would be unreal.

I'll concede this when Mahoney gets some chances to make kicks that should be automatic. Sending him out for 5/9 at the end of the year from 50+ isn't fair to him because most collegiate kickers will miss all of them (as will some in the NFL).

Re: Your 2011 Preliminary All-Iowa Team

This is pretty good although I am not sure on the RB, I would try to unbiasedly (a word?) argue Coker in for the top spot even though he has had limited showing. Other than that, looks pretty solid. K Davis has not yet had the on field results to warrant being on this list, hopefully he finally has a year where his abilities become apparent
