    Re: What did Pakistan know.....

That is the big question. The fact that OBL was hiding in a compound an hour away from the capitol of a country who has nuclear weapons and a history of sympathy to OBL and Al Qaida makes his killing even more important, if that is possible.

I also would like those answers. Pakistan has some very serious questions to answer.

That they do. It's impossible to fathom they didn't know he was there.

We have to ask the question: will the general public knowing how much Pakistan knew about ObL's whereabouts do more harm than good? I'm sure US intelligence probably knows what it needs to know about it. I don't think any good will come out of some loud-mouthed lawmakers grandstanding over it.

Good point. Pakistan likes to claim they are allies with the US and our "partner" in the war on terror but I think that most people understand that Pakistan's idea of a partnership is smiling to your face and then stabbing you right in the back the second you turn around. While there is probably a solid percentage of Pakistani civilians who don't hate the US I don't know if the same can be said for their military, intelligence community, or their government in general.

    Re: What did Pakistan know.....

I'm sure OBL has not been hiding there for the past 10 years. I would assume that he moves around quite a bit.

How do we not know that Pakistan was not the ones who gave the U.S.A. the intell on where he was hiding?

I think it is better that we don't know every detail, somethings need to be secret.

It really comes as no surprise that Pakistan wasn't a true ally. It just makes me even angrier that we treated them with such kid gloves for 10 years.

    Re: What did Pakistan know.....

Pakistan is not like a normal western country. There are factions within the military and security organizations that are "outside" the main government. I would bet there were groups that knew where he was or at least knew he was in Pakistan and protected OBL.
Now we need to help Pakistan to get rid of those that hid OBL. It would not surprise me to see a LOT of military trials in Pakistan over the next several weeks/months for people that knew information but hid it. Anyway we could help Pakistan to remove OBL allies would help make Pakistan more stable.

Yes, and there were alot of dissenting opinions here in the US a couple years back when Obama said if he had actionable intelligence to take out high level Al Qaida officials in Pakistan, that he would take them out, even without Pakistani approval. Methinks we were too scared to step on Pakistans toes.

And we apparently did not share the information on OBL's compound with Pakistan beforehand, likely because we did not trust them. We'll never know, but if we would have given them the information, we might have seen another Tora Bora, where OBL slipped out of our grasp, and many feel that he was tipped off ahead of time through leaks from our Northern Alliance allies.

Pakistan's ISI set up the Taliban, if that tells you anything. There is undoubtedly deep sympathies with al Qaeda within the ISI and Pakistan, and I don't think anyone expects that to change.

It made it easier for the courier to be located so close to the military. Walkie talkies even worked.

Pakistan has always been the real enemy and the sooner we understand that the better.

I thought that the bolded was implied in Obama's address last night? Or maybe I wasn't understanding correctly, but that's what it sounded like to me at the time.
