    Future Cyclone Draft picks

With all the talk about the upcoming NFL draft tonight and a slow morning at work I decided to check out the prospects for the upcoming years coming out of Ames. I was a little bit inspired by the Rags "which cyclone draft class was best" article/survey and decided to try out which future class of the next three people will think is the most successful.

Keep in mind this is all speculation, I cannot actually tell the future and some of these guys would depend a lot of future development and staying healthy etc... Also, keep in mind this is just my opinion and these guys may become prospects with a good year or two under CPR, feel free to discuss if you think someone qualifies as a prospect or not.

    2012
    KO
    L. Johnson
    Money
    Benton
    Darks
    Latimmer
    Rump
    Hicks

    2013
    Tautolo
    Reeves
    McD
    Maggit
    Knott
    Klein
    Jantz
    Burris
    Tiller*

    2014
    Shontrelle
    J. George
    Licktenberg
    Tuftee
    Kirby
    J. Washington
    Woody

(2014 was hard, I tried to use guys who were cracking the 2 deeps as So.

    Re: Future Cyclone Draft picks

I chose 2012. IMO, KO is a first rounder. Benton is a mid-round pick due to his versatility. LJ is a mid to late round pick. Others are late round picks at best, probably FA signings.

For 2013, I see Knott being a 2nd or 3rd rounder, but could surprise. The others are decent but most likely very late round picks or FA signings IMO.

    Re: Future Cyclone Draft picks

At the CF event, Wally Burnham told our group that Dutch might have a chance, but Leonard Johnson should have no problem getting drafted and Benton has a chance. I imagine Osemele should be drafted in the first three rounds but I'm not sure anyone else on offense will be drafted in 2012.

As for 2013, Knott seems to be the consensus choice and Klein definitely looks like he could be drafted. Reeves just doesn't have the size and McDonough & Laing probably aren't going to have the talent. On the offensive side of the ball it's tough to tell. Burris has a lot of work to do and is a little small weight wise.

Why isn't Tiller listed in the 2013?

Definitely 2012. KO is a sure thing and LJ and Benton are likely. No one is a sure thing in 2013 (yes, I would include Knott in that).

I will swallow my head if Lattimer ever plays in the league. I love the guy's hustle and intensity, but he's not big enough for DE and not nearly fast enough to play any type of LB spot.

    2012
    KO- Top 3 Rnds
    L. Johnson- Mid to Late Rnds
Money- Needs to stay healthy and produce, enven then prob late rnd at best
    Benton- Late Rnds or FA
    Darks- See Money
Latimmer- Depends on production this year must improve agains the run and reach double digit sacks, if draft for 2012 were today I would say no
    Rump- No
Hicks- FA at best- If Lamaak is a late rnd or FA prospect I dont see HH going much sooner

    2013
Tautolo- Hasnt played in B12 so no way to judge yet
    Reeves- size will hurt
McD- Not enogh production to warrant a selection YET
Maggit- Not enogh production to warrant a selection YET
    Knott- Top 3 Rnds
    Klein- Mid to late rnds
Jantz- See Tautolo- If he doesnt beat JT then no draft, if he wins the job this year and performs well enough to take this team to two consecutive bowls I could see a late rnd pick or FA. I'm thinking it would take Seneca type production for him to get a shot at the bigs
Burris- If he produces I could see as a late rnd or FA

    2014
    Shontrelle
    J. George
    Licktenberg
    Tuftee
    Kirby
    J. Washington
    Woody

Too early to tell with 2014 with the exception of Kirby. If he continues to produce he is a late rounder for sure.

(2014 was hard, I tried to use guys who were cracking the 2 deeps as So.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

I could easily see him make a practice squad as a 3-4 OLB.

I really think far too many people on CF get carried away with Latt's ability.

I agree, I'm one of those that likes Maggitt more. But, I believe the NFL can find a spot for a small DE, who used to be a LB, that can get to the QB and plays in a big conference. He's the definition of a DE/OLB tweener.

Lattimore didn't even start for a majority of last year and now he is going to play in the league?
