    From his profile:

Micah Byars is in his seventh year on the UCF staff. Byars arrived on the UCF campus in 2005, is in his sixth season as the program's director of operations. Byars manages travel coordination, youth basketball camps, on-campus recruiting and helps monitor the Knights' academic progress.

Not sure if this will be the same here

Maybe that's the guy in charge of keeping the players out of trouble?

Re: Sources: Micah Byars to be named Director of Player Development

    Interesting bio:

Prior to coming to UCF, Byars served as an assistant at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., from 2003-05. W....Byars worked directly with Chipola's post players, while assisting with recruiting, scheduling and film exchange

While on the staff at Chipola, Byars coached and helped recruit several players who moved on to the Division I ranks, including Mario Boggan (Oklahoma State), Je'kel Foster (Ohio State) and Stefhon Hannah (Missouri)....In 2006-07, Hannah was named the Big 12 Conference's Newcomer of the Year and Boggan was an all-league first-team selection.
....At Chipola, Byars also mentored Mike Taylor. After leading the Stampede to the crown, Taylor was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft by Portland.

Did he spend a season with TJ at Chipola?

    Also:
The Gainesville native attended Florida and spent two years (1994-95) as a defensive back on the Gators' football team

He seems a little over-qualified. Heir-apparent to Rutter?

Notice that he spent time at Chipola. Looks like he coached with Otzelberger there at the same time. There's your connection.

Otzelberger was an assistant at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla., during the 2004-05 season.

    Interesting:

At Chipola, Byars also mentored Mike Taylor, who helped Idaho claim the 2008 National Basketball Association Development League title.
EDIT: Guess I'm a little later on the trigger today.

Did Byars do any recruiting at UCF? I don't think Director of Basketball Operations can actually recruit, but I hope he isn't tied into the UCF recruiting scandal at all.

He could not go on the road recruiting in that position. He could interact with recruits once on campus. Donnie Jones is in his first year at UCF as head coach and Byars is now leaving after being there seven years. Maybe he saw what was now going on and wanted out.

    What about Coaches?

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”
