Kansas Hoops: Brutal 2011 non-con schedule

Kansas is Kansas right? You know that Bill Self will have a talented team in 2011, but you also know that the Jayhawks will be very unproven in November. They won't have much time to get their feet wet either. Check out this Kansas City Star report on the non-con schedule that Self has put together for next year. Ouch.

I honestly can't see anyway this team cracks to top 5 in the Big 12 or finishes in the Top 25. I wouldn't be at all suprised to see them as a bubble team.

Its moments like this that proves there is a God. However, if they win all of those games and beat us twice, my thinking will reverse a bit.

Hahaha...typo in article what the hell is a home-and-home series. I mean 18 games home game would be nice for them after that rough non-conference schedule.

How does their non conference schedule have anything to do with them cracking the top 5 in the conference?

They will lose to Kentucky and OSU but other than that I don't see anything two awful with that schedule. Sure it will be really tough and Kansas will be down next year but Duke will be replacing Singler, Smith, and Irving. They will have talent but it will be early in the season. Georgetown is Georgetown. Good, not great. Tennessee will be bad. Memphis is coached by Josh Pastner. Michigan will be really solid but Kansas will be favored I would assume.

Are you kidding me? I'm sorry but it's still Bill Self, we're talking about the team with more wins than any other school in the last ten years. Where I agree they will have a down year I don't think there's a chance that they're a bubble team. I wouldn't mind if I'm proven wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

Re: Kansas Hoops: Brutal 2011 non-con schedule

KU still has an NBA draft pick at forward and decent guards. when we have that we think final four. KU will still be good, and I'll be suprised if they're not top 3 in the conference.

bill self has really taken KU to another level. no.1 seed in the tourney 3 of the last 4 years and national championship. would be nice to beat KU again....

Two teams meet twice, once at each team's respective arena = home-and-home.

still only true road game in NC is USC and they considered moving it to Wichita because they don't draw.

Re: Kansas Hoops: Brutal 2011 non-con schedule

I'll judge when we actually see the team play... ISU fans have fallen in this trap before... When the 2007 team left, everybody thought they would regress, but they did not. Just because all the players you've heard of are gone, doesn't mean they are going to suck. Recruiting is king, and they are bringing in two high impact guys next year.

Plus, there is only 1 real road game (USC, which will be in an empty building)... The rest are all neutral or at home... They probably only lose to Kentucky, and Ohio State. They will have at least as much talent as all the rest of the teams they will play.

Re: Kansas Hoops: Brutal 2011 non-con schedule

KU has a lot of question marks going in to next year but they've also got plenty coming back to challenge any team on the schedule. IMO KU beating any of those teams shouldnt' be a shock to anyone.

Here is my thinking. First, the "C'mon, it's Kansas" argument doesn't do much for me. North Carolina, Kentucky, and Michigan State have all gone through down years in recent history, what makes Kansas immune? They lose the 2 guys that shouldered the majority of scoring and rebounding last year, three of their veteran guards and (arguably) their most talented guard in Selby. With Robinson's recent legal troubles there is no garuntee that he doesn't jump as well. Tyshawn Taylor is back, but that doesn't do a whole lot for me considering his inconsistency and his troubles with Self.

That leaves Kansas with one solid post who may or may not be back for sure (Robinson), a headcase of a point guard who can't seem to get along with his coach and knows he has one year to up his draft stock, and a few young players who have seen extremely limited time in games.

The recruiting class is decent so far, but fairly average by Kansas standards. I know they are in on a few late five stars, and maybe my opinion on them will change once I see what they can bring in, but as of now I just don't see it.

Valid argument. I just still believe they will be alright. Don't think they will win the conference but to say they aren't going to finish in the top 5 of the conference seems to be a bit of a bold statement.

Re: Kansas Hoops: Brutal 2011 non-con schedule

Their schedule looks like the one Michigan State had back in 2003. MSU's schedule included KU, Duke, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Syracuse. It was so brutal that they killed the momentum and MSU ended up having mediocre season.

    Basketball Schedule

KU could follow that.... or they could have magical season like UCONN did this year.
